The paralyzed person could feel the touch through the prosthesis of the hand

Modern technologies and health care continue to surprise us, and now the paralyzed man became the first person on earth who could "feel" through the prosthesis of the hand. This news appeared a few days after it became known about the 54-year-old patient who had discovered cancer and who successfully replaced the ribs with titanium (they were printed on a 3D printer).

But the wonderful story that we want to tell you today happened to a 28-year-old man who wished to remain anonymous. Ten years ago he was injured, after which he remained paralyzed. The arm prosthesis for him was made by the military scientific agency of the project of perspective researches. The prosthesis itself is connected with the patient's brain activity.

Features of the experiment

The discovery was made during the experiment. The man was blindfolded and asked to report which of his fingers are touched on the prosthesis. Practically with 100% accuracy, a 28-year-old man was able to determine which finger was touched. Thus, he became the first person in the world who could feel the touch through the prosthesis of the hands.

The scientists decided to go even further. They pressed not one, but two fingers, but did not say anything about it to the patient. He was able to easily pass through this experiment. This gave the scientists an opportunity to understand that the touch that the man felt with the help of a mechanical arm looked like real.

These results are of great importance not only for the man who participated in the experiment. They mean great prospects for future cooperation between technology and health.
