The national currency of Sweden

Sweden is the state of Northern Europe, whose territory is located on the Scandinavian Peninsula. The capital of the kingdom is in Stockholm and is one of the most beautiful capitals of Europe.

Sweden is a country of picturesque islands and incomparable bare rocks, forests, national parks and reserves, architectural and cultural monuments. You can list a lot of attractions that are worth seeing in the kingdom, so here flock a large number of tourists from all over the country.

Every tourist traveling abroad should take care of the exchange of rubles for the national banknotes of the country in which he travels in advance.

What is the national currency in Sweden?

Let's talk about the local currency of the state. The national currency of Sweden is called the kroon. It has been in circulation since the end of the 19th century, since 1873. Before the First World War, Sweden, Denmark and Norway had a common currency - the crown. These countries were part of a single Scandinavian economic union. But in 1914 the union broke up, each country approved its currency. Sweden decided not to change the name.

The currency in Sweden is printed in the form of the following notes and coins:

  • Banknotes of value in 20, 50, 100, 500, 1000 kroons;
  • Coins with a value of 1, 5, 10 kroons.

One Swedish krona is 100 years old. Until March 2009, coins were issued in nominal value in the 50th era, but due to the low purchasing power of these coins, their issue was discontinued, and from October 2010 they were out of circulation. The currency of Sweden is 2 and 20 kroons until it is issued, although the Central Bank of Sweden is already thinking about the advisability of issuing coins of this value.

The Swedish krone is one of the most stable currencies in the world. Its rate to the Russian ruble is approximately 41-42 rubles, so when you go on a trip to Sweden, you can calculate your reserves based on these figures. Inflation is practically nonexistent.

The currency of Sweden has a high level of protection against possible counterfeits. Its appearance is not devoid of artistic taste, a pleasant color solution of notes of different values creates a pleasant impression. On the obverse of the coin one crown shows the king of Sweden, and on the reverse side - the emblem of the country or the crown. This tradition has developed from a long time ago. But coins of other denominations depict kings, a writer, an opera singer and other famous people of the country.

The tourists do not have problems with currency exchange in the country. The currency of Sweden can be exchanged at special exchange offices located in crowded places, for example, in hotels, shops, airports, post offices, seaports, banks and so on. Therefore, if you do not manage to make a currency exchange in your country, it can be done on the territory of Sweden at any time by selecting the most optimal rate. And in the country there are exchangers with a fixed commission amount and with the interest cost of this service. Data on the commission charged are indicated even before entering the exchange office.

When shopping in Sweden, it is worthwhile to know that local traders have taken the rule of rounding the value of the goods to 0.5 Swedish krona. And in the greater or lesser side - depends on the ability to bargain our tourists!
