The maximum permissible concentration (MPC) is an important indicator of the environment

The modern stage of the development of human civilization involves a huge number of all kinds of instruments and assemblies. They significantly increase the comfort of living and the effectiveness of human life, but they have a significant negative impact on people and their external environment. Such interaction is characterized by the microclimate, the level of vibration and noise, and the content of substances harmful to health in the ground, water and air.

The maximum permissible concentration (MPC) is an approved indicator included in regulatory documents that contain requirements and recommendations of state sanitary and hygiene centers for the effective and safe use of natural resources (air, soil, water). This allows not only to normalize the amount of emissions from industrial enterprises, but also to calculate the damage that will be caused to the environment.

MPC is the maximum value of harmful substance concentration, negatively affecting human health, the natural community and its individual components.

Harmful substances are classified according to the degree of influence exerted on the human body. According to the normative documents, there are four classes of danger. In addition, harmful compounds are divided into several groups according to the nature of interaction with the human body. There are strangling, irritating, somatic and narcotic substances.

Let us consider in detail the MPC of harmful substances in the air. Most often, the concept presented is understood as the single maximum value of dangerous compounds that penetrate the human body through breathing or through the skin. Sampling is performed several times during the period under review. Then the average value is calculated. There are one-time maximum and average daily dose. In this regard, the MAC of atmospheric air in the area of the working area is the level of the content of a harmful substance that does not cause various diseases during a daily operation during a sufficiently long period.

MPC is an indicator not only of the state of the atmosphere. Even food products coming to stores are even rationed. Since harmful substances entering the body have the property of accumulating, during their life a person is exposed to significant effects.

MPCs are permissible standards for the content of one particular substance. However, if there are several dangerous compounds in the atmosphere, soil or water, the damage caused by them will be added together. In accordance with the norms, even the joint level of harmful substances should not exceed 1. However, in many areas this rule is not observed, resulting in an increased risk of some chronic and fatal diseases. It should also be taken into account that the MPC is an indicator calculated for the average person. That is, if your body is weakened, you are more prone to the negative effects of hazardous substances.
