The fleet of Aeroflot is Russia's largest air fleet

Aeroflot is the largest airline in Russia. The Aeroflot Air Fleet carries out flights both within our country and to other countries.

Company History

Aeroflot was founded a long time ago, back in 1923. From the very beginning and up to now the company belongs to the state. From 1938 to 1991 the fleet of Aeroflot was the largest in the world. Since 1991, the state owns only 51% of the shares of Aeroflot, the remaining shares are in private hands.

Since 1989, the airline is part of the international association of air transport, or, as it is still called, IATA. In order to compete with the world's largest airlines, in 2000 the company's directors decided to rebrand. The fleet of the airline Aeroflot appeared before the passengers in a new image only in three years, in 2003. Not only the shape of the crew changed, but also the coloring of air transport. Despite the rebranding, the hammer and sickle are still the official symbols of the company.

Since 2006, the company is a member of the SkyTeam aviation alliance.

The main office of Aeroflot is located on the Arbat. The company's subsidiaries are located in different cities of Russia. Among the subsidiaries of Donavia, Aurora, Pobeda, Orenburg Airlines, Russia.

In 2014, Aeroflot was recognized as the best airline in Eastern Europe for the third time since its inception.

Company policy

During check-in, the staff checks the passengers' baggage and hand luggage. The transported baggage (each box or suitcase) for the sum of three measurements should not exceed 1.58 m, and hand luggage 1.15 m.

In the business class for baggage carried free of charge, two places are assigned, each bag should not weigh more than 32 kg. In hand luggage, you can carry one bag weighing 15 kg.

In the "Comfort" class there are also two places for personal things of luggage. The weight of each unit of transported goods should not exceed 23 kg. Hand luggage is calculated from the size of 10 kg per person, one bag.

In the economy class, "Premium" is allowed to carry the same baggage as in the "Comfort" class.

For other passengers of economy class, 1 piece of baggage weighing not more than 23 kg and 1 bag of hand luggage not exceeding 10 kg of weight is allowed.

If the total weight of the baggage carried by the passenger with allowance for hand luggage does not exceed 10 kg, the number of baggage spaces may be large.

Fleet of Aeroflot

The planes involved in flights are what Aeroflot is proud of. The fleet of planes is modern, young and rapidly growing from year to year. Now the fleet consists of 189 liners, most of which are models A320, A330, SuperJet 100. Contracts have been signed for the purchase of 22 Boeing B787 and 22 Airbus A350 aircraft.

Sukhoi SuperJet 100 aircraft are Russian planes used for domestic flights. For international flights, Airbus airliners are more often used.

Boeing aircraft outperform other models of aircraft at a possible range of flight and capacity. They serve flights of "Comfort" class, which are carried out by the airline "Aeroflot".

The fleet of aircrafts at the beginning of 2017 consists of 35 Boeing 777 and 737 airliners, 124 Airbus A330, A320, A321 and 30 SuperJet 100 aircraft.

History of the fleet "Aeroflot"

During the Soviet Union almost all the aircraft of the company were manufactured in the USSR. All flights of civilian airlines and even some military flights were carried out by the country's largest airline.

In the 1940s and 1950s, Li-2 was used to transport passengers. This aircraft was produced in the USSR since 1939.

In 1947, IL-12 and IL-14 began to be launched gradually. The biplanes of the An-2 brand were also used. This model of the aircraft was used by Aeroflot for passenger and freight traffic up to the 80's.

Since the mid-1950s, Tu-104 and Tu-114 were flying. In 1962, Tu-124 was put into operation, and in 1967 - Tu-134.

The Tu-134 aircraft are used for flights until now.

For the first time foreign aircrafts were used by the company in 1992. Then Aeroflot got a plane A10. In 1994, the airline in the fleet added a certain number of Boeing, Airbus and cargo aircraft Douglas DS-10. Now more than half of the airline fleet is produced by foreign companies.

All used airliners were purchased after 1994 in the fleet of Aeroflot. The age of the aircraft flying is in most cases less than 20 years.

Accidents and scandals

Since the 50-ies, Aeroflot has recorded 127 various accidents and crashes, which killed 6895 people.

In 1994, the Airbus A310 was dropped in Siberia, near Mezhdurechensk. This was due to the fact that the commander of the aircraft, including the autopilot, put in his place a 15-year-old son. While the young man was sitting on his father's place and "taxiing", the autopilot somehow disconnected. The plane went into a tailspin and crashed. After this incident, security measures on board the aircraft of the company were strengthened.

In 1996, when landing at the airport in Turin in Italy, an AN-124 Ruslan aircraft crashed, which Aeroflot leased from another company. The plane for some reason hit the wheels of one of the houses in the village and fell on the farm 5 km from the airport. In that accident, 5 people died, 11 were injured. The company, which Aeroflot leased then An-124, is still trying to sue the compensation for a broken plane.
