The first patient with a transplanted face died of cancer

French doctors state the death of the world's first patient with a transplanted face. Isabel Dinuar in 2005 was mutilated by a domestic pet. Surgeons immediately ruled out the possibility of plastic surgery and risked the transplantation of the tissues of the nose, mouth and chin.

Immunosuppressants interfered with cellular processes

The transplant was successful. However, several years later, the French woman began to reject tissue. She had to actively use immunosuppressants, which provoked a cancer tumor. She died in April 2016 in a hospital in the city of Amiens. But doctors did not begin to declare this, respecting the private life of the deceased family.

The difficult fate of the heroine

In 2009, Isabel admitted to journalists that she hardly recognizes herself by looking in the mirror. In reflection, she sees a hybrid of her own appearance and appearance of the donor. The woman was forced to put up with the existence of a part of someone else's face. But it was her choice, because otherwise she could not show her disfigured face to people. Soon the rejection of tissues began. Therapy led to the development of two types of cancer.

Why was the dog so cruel?

Surprisingly, the ugliness caused by the actions of the beloved dog was provoked by good goals. In 2005, Isabel tried to commit suicide by taking a handful of sleeping pills. Labrador desperately tried to wake the landlady. The dog licked her face, but she did not wake up. As a result, he did not find anything better than to bite his chin and nose. Isabel woke up in a pool of blood, and next to him sat a faithful dog.

The injuries were so extreme that the doctors suggested an innovative method of transplanting the facial tissues. Since that time such operations have been carried out in a number of countries, including the USA, Poland, Turkey, China and Spain.
