The drug "Viferon" instruction refers to the clinical and pharmacological group of antiviral agents used externally.

The medication is made in the form of a gel, homogeneous in consistency and white in color. The active substance of the drug is human interferon alpha-2 (recombinant). Among the auxiliary components are α-tocopherol acetate, benzoic acid, sodium chloride, methionine, citric acid, sodium tetraborate, serum human albumin and a gel base consisting of glycerin and sodium carboxymethylcellulose.

In addition, the drug "Viferon" (the instruction for use indicates this) is available in the form of an ointment (similar to the gel used externally) having a yellow or yellowish white color and a specific lanolin smell. Its consistency is viscous. The active ingredient is the same element as in the gel. Additional ingredients are anhydrous lanolin, medical Vaseline, peach oil, tocopherol acetate and purified water.

The drug "Viferon", the instruction informs, is issued in aluminum tubes or polystyrene jars for ten milligrams of medicament in each. The product goes on sale in cardboard boxes.

Pharmacological effectiveness of the drug is due to the components that make up its composition. Thus, due to the presence of tocopherol acetate, the antibacterial activity of alpha-2 interferon increases, which, in turn, enhances the immunomodulatory effect of the drug. To do this, the medication is applied to the surface of the tonsils three times a day with a hard swab for at least three weeks. If necessary, the therapy can be repeated after six months. For the prevention of the diseases described above, it is necessary to carry out preventive treatment with the drug twice a year - in the autumn and in the spring.

When recurring herpetic infection (which is chronic) of any localization, it is important to begin therapy as soon as possible after the symptoms of the disease are identified (and best of all during the period of its precursors manifestation). In this case, the medicine (gel) is rubbed into the problem areas for ten days (the number of procedures is three to seven per day). The duration of treatment can be doubled.

Ointment is widely used to eliminate viral infections of the skin and mucous membranes. A small amount of medicine should be applied accurately to the problem areas three to four times a day.
