The use of fluoroquinolones in the treatment of chlamydial infection

Of the drugs used in antichlamydia therapy, "Ofloxacin" is not the only one. There is a drug close to it.

Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic, more effective than Norfloxacin (approximately three to eight times). There is a good absorption of the drug with parenteral administration (past the digestive tract), and also in the morning, on an empty stomach inside. The maximum concentration is noted in the plasma after an hour or two after oral administration and half an hour after intravenous administration.

There is good penetration into tissues and organs, passage through the blood-brain barrier (between the brain tissue and blood). A drug with proteins in the plasma binds little. About forty percent of ciprofloxacin is excreted in urine for twenty-four hours in unchanged form. Half-life (the interval for which half of the administered dose leaves the body) is about four hours.

However, in the treatment of chlamydial infection, the medication does not show a consistent effectiveness. The antibiotic Ciprofloxacin does not eliminate the possibility of relapse. There is also a persistence of the pathogen. In addition, lengthening the timing of its use does not contribute to the elimination or alleviation of chlamydial arthritis.

Ofloxacin is more effective. This has been established by numerous studies. The bacteriological and clinical efficacy of this drug has been proven in 93-99% of cases. Dosage of the drug during the study was 300 mg twice a day.
