Cough medicine for children

A good cough medicine for children must contain natural ingredients, in particular extracts of herbs, bark of trees, roots, etc.

Most babies are biased towards everything unknown and constantly refuse to take various medications. Therefore, a really good potion should be sufficiently palatable, so that you do not have to pour it into the child by force. But if the mixture is also sweet because of the addition of sugar substitutes or sugar itself, it is undesirable to take it, as it often consists of chemical ingredients, and the surplus of substances of artificial origin has a negative impact on the fragile children's body. And, in fact, medicines are created specifically to minimize the number of chemical preparations for children from cough.

The most common cough syrup for children consists of such ingredients: althaea root extract, licorice dry licorice extract, sodium bicarbonate, ammonium chloride, sodium benzoate, aniseed oil, sugar. In appearance it looks like a brown-gray powder with a strong aroma of anise oil. Before use, it must be diluted in a ratio of 1 serving of powder to 10 portions of water. The finished solution has a brown color.

The drug has a strong expectorant effect, the mechanism of which is due to a significant increase in mucociliary clearance. The secretion of bronchial glands also increases, and sputum slightly dilutes. The main active substances in the extract of the althea root are pectins, polysaccharides, starch and amino acids.

Polysaccharides, which are rich in dry cough syrup for children, are well absorbed into the blood, and then partially secreted by the glands in the bronchi, which allows enveloping, anti-inflammatory and softening effect on the mucous membrane in the upper respiratory tract. Moreover, they increase the production of liquid components of bronchial secretions, while normalizing their elasticity, viscosity and adhesiveness.

The active substances of the medicine intensify the peristaltic movement of bronchioles and the motor functions of the ciliated epithelium, with which the bronchi are lined, which contributes to the normal excretion of sputum.

Due to the action of sodium bicarbonate, sputum is liquefied and leaves better.

Cough medicine for children is prescribed for infectious and inflammatory diseases of the lungs and upper respiratory tract, which are accompanied by a strong dry cough.

Before use, the mixture is diluted with water and used after eating. Children from six months to 6 years are given one teaspoon of the prepared solution 4 times a day. Children after six years should give a dessert spoon solution 3 times a day. The medicine is also very suitable for treating cough in adults, for this you should take 1 tablespoon solution 5 times a day. Before each use, the container with the medicine must be shaken thoroughly.

The duration of the therapeutic course is determined in a strictly individual order and completely depends on the effectiveness of therapy. On average, treatment takes from a week to two.

Children's cough medicine has side effects. Sometimes there are allergic reactions in the form of red rashes on the skin, itching, shortness of breath, general weakness.

The drug is suitable for everyone, except those who can have an individual intolerance to specific components of it. Also it can not be given to children who have not reached the age of six months.

Despite the fact that such preparations as a child's medicine for coughing are heard extremely positive, you should exercise caution when applying it without prescribing a doctor. In particular, the drug is not suitable for people with diabetes, because it contains sugar. It is undesirable at the same time to take medicine with drugs, whose action is aimed at reducing the formation of sputum.
