The drug 'Clonazepam'. Instructions for use

The drug "Clonazepam" instruction characterizes as an antiepileptic agent from a number of benzodiazepine derivatives. The drug has a pronounced anticonvulsant, central muscle relaxant (reducing increased muscle tone), hypnotic, sedative (sedative), anxiolytic.

The drug "Clonazepam" is able to reduce excitability in the subcortical structures in the brain.

Anxiolytic effect is manifested by a decrease in emotional tension, fear, anxiety, anxiety.

Sedative influence is associated with action on nonspecific nuclei in the thalamus and reticular formation in the brainstem. This action is manifested in alleviating neurotic symptoms.

Anticonvulsant effect is accompanied by suppression of the development of epileptogenic activity, which forms in the corresponding foci of the cortex, limbic structures and thalamus. In this case, the excited state of the foci is not removed. However, the anticonvulsant effect of the drug is more pronounced than that of the same group. In this regard, the drug "Clonazepam" instruction recommends the use mainly in the treatment of the relevant conditions. As practice shows, in patients receiving drug therapy, seizures are less frequent, and their intensity is reduced.

The drug is prescribed for children and adults with the manifestation of large and small forms of epilepsy, accompanied by myoclonic seizures (twitching of individual muscle beams), with increased muscle tone, psychomotor crises. The drug "Clonazepam" instruction allows for use as a hypnotic, especially for patients with brain damage of an organic nature.

Dosing regimen

Treatment with the drug "Clonazepam" instruction recommends starting with small doses, increasing them gradually to optimal efficiency. Depending on the condition of the patient and the reaction of his body to the medication, prescribe the amount of medicine for one dose. A day is recommended 1.5 mg. The dosage is divided into three times. Increase in the amount of medication taken is carried out gradually. It is recommended to increase the dose by 0.5-1 mg for every third day, until the optimal efficiency appears. Typically, a day is prescribed from four to eight milligrams. The maximum dose per day is twenty milligrams. It should not be exceeded.

Dosage for children per day is set as follows:

- from the first days of life and up to a year - 0.1-1 mg;

- from one to five years - 1,5-3 mg;

- from six to sixteen years - 3-6 mg.

The daily amount of the drug must be divided into three doses.

The drug "Clonazepam". Contraindications

Do not prescribe medication for acute kidney and liver diseases, during pregnancy, with myasthenia gravis (muscle weakness).

It is not recommended simultaneous reception of the drug "Clonazepam" with MAO inhibitors (the category of antidepressants) and phenothiazine derivatives.

Do not use the medicine on the eve and while driving, performing activities that require a high speed psychomotor reaction.

The drug "Clonazepam" (synonyms - "Antelepsin", "Clonopin" and others) should not be taken simultaneously with alcohol-containing beverages.

It is established that the agent penetrates into the milk and carries a placental barrier. In this regard, during the lactation and pregnancy, the drug "Clonazepam", analogues of the drug ("Rivotril", "Clonotril") is not prescribed.

Adverse Reactions

The use of the drug can provoke irritability, depression, impaired coordination of movements, nausea, increased fatigue. In case of adverse reactions, dosage should be adjusted.
