The child does not go to the toilet a little, what to do?

From the first days of the baby, pediatricians draw the attention of the young mother to the fact that it is important to control the amount of liquid and food consumed, the color of urine and feces. Therefore, when a child does not go to the toilet a little or, on the contrary, too often, it is necessary to find out the reasons for this behavior and, if possible, consult a doctor.

How many times should a child write a day?

Clear data on how much the child must urinate per day, no. On your complaint that a child rarely goes to the toilet, the pediatrician can only advise you to monitor the amount of fluid intake. But let's discuss based on real observations of pre-school children.

Since birth, the baby pisses often (an average of 20-24 times a day), there are rarely cases where a newborn from the first days remains dry all night. In 1-1,5 years, the capacity of the bladder increases, and the baby can remain dry for as long as two hours. In the same period, the baby can stay dry all night due to the fact that the filling of the bladder slows down. Therefore, if the baby goes to bed at 21:00 and rises at 7:00 in the morning, then on average the child goes 8 times to the toilet in a small way.

In 3,5-5 years, the baby can tolerate 3-5 hours without a pot, then with this regime a day, he can go 3-5 times to the toilet in a small way. But these data are purely theoretical, since one must look at fluid intake. If you think that the child does not go to the toilet badly, then you need to track how much he consumes in a day of water, tea, compote, mors, milk, liquid from the first dishes.

For example, in maternity homes, children are given between meals to drink boiled water 1-2 times a day (not more than 30 ml). Pediatricians also tell the child to give water up to a year 1-2 times a day (not more than 60 ml), especially during illness or heat. But one child can drink water with great pleasure, and another prefers to drink a liter of milk per day.

In summer or in a stuffy room, children drink more and more, and in winter or in a ventilated, humidified room, respectively, the volume of liquid drunk is less. In this case, of course, there is no reason for worry if the child does not go to the toilet a little. Therefore, mothers should monitor the amount of fluid consumed before panicking in the pediatrician's office.

How to determine that a child goes to the toilet a little ?

  1. Start a diary for one week, where you will write down what the child ate and drank during the day.
  2. Write down how many times the baby went to the toilet. It is best to measure the volume of urine at the time of observation, as it is done in the maternity hospital. For this, pour urine from the pot into a measuring glass and write down the data in the diary.
  3. Watch for the well-being of the child and write in the diary on the hour about mood swings.
  4. If possible, invite friends of your baby or his siblings to see changes in the diet for 1-2 days. It has already been proved that "for the company" the baby can eat and drink those foods that he does not consume alone.

Weekly observations will be enough for the pediatrician to see if there are deviations in the development of the baby. Any doctor will say that if the baby is cheerful, alert and energetic, then there is no reason for panic. If the child does not go to the toilet a little, and he is worried about it, hurts, becomes the cause of moods and mood swings, then you need to contact the pediatrician, urologist, surgeon and take the tests.
