"Garage". Museum of Modern Art: description and how to get there

One of the largest exhibition grounds in Moscow is the "Garage". The Museum of Modern Art of the capital received this slightly strange name, since it was originally located in an abandoned car hangar in Bakhmetevsky bus park.

A bit of history

In 2008, Daria Zhukova and the representative of the IRIS Fondation cultural foundation Molly Dent-Brocklehurst created a project to popularize contemporary art. The main demonstration ground was the exhibition pavilion "Garage". The Museum of Modern Art on this basis was formed later - in 2013. It was then from an old building in the style of the Russian avant-garde, located in the bus park, the exposition moved to the park pavilion them. Gorky.

Unusual museum, where original, non-standard works of domestic and foreign contemporary artists, sculptors, photographers were demonstrated, quickly attracted the attention of Muscovites and visitors. In addition, this site has often become a place for interesting cultural events.

In June 2015 the Museum of Modern Art "Garage" moved to a restored building, where the restaurant "Seasons" originally operated. Now in its three-story pavilion there are several exhibition, demonstration and interactive sites.

What can you see in the "Garage"

Modern art is diverse, many-sided and often incomprehensible not only to the common man in the street, but also to professional critics. "Garage" (Museum of Modern Art) provides an opportunity for creative people to convey their ideas to the society, no matter in what form they are embodied. To this end, the most diverse programs are organized. This is a large international expositions, and chamber exhibitions of young artists. There are also halls dedicated to digital art and photographers. And you can not only see the works themselves, but also listen to a lecture and watch a film about artists.

Of particular interest are the so-called interactive exhibits, which can be touched and observed, as they change in the process of interaction with them.

"Art experiment"

This interactive project, annually held by the museum, allows viewers to become active participants in the creativity of this or that artist and test themselves in the role of creators of a work of art. In 2016 visitors will have an opportunity to get acquainted with the artistic techniques of Alexander Povzner and Irina Korina.

Working in a creative laboratory and participating in master classes attract interest and attract a large number of spectators. Since 2010, 35 thousand visitors of different ages took part in the "Art experiment".

"Garage" for children

The staff of the museum developed special children's programs, which are educational and developing. The children together with parents can not only get acquainted with the representatives of contemporary art, but also listen to lectures on interesting topics related to journalism, architectural history and / or take part in art therapy sessions.

Equally interesting are interactive classes and master classes, which are conducted for children by professional educators and artists. Children can try their hand at creativity from the age of 5, while educational and development programs are differentiated depending on age.

Museum of Contemporary Art "Garage" (address: Krimsky Val, house 9) provides an opportunity to organize holidays and birthdays for children, order as a gift or create prints for bags and t-shirts in the workshop. For very young children and their parents there works the Mama's Place club, where teachers, children's psychologists, designers and artists conduct classes.

Anton Belov - Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art "Garage"

The success of any cultural project in the modern world largely depends on the level of management. The transformation of the "Garage" from a regular museum into a center for the development of creativity and one of the most iconic places of the capital is the merit, first of all, of its director, Anton Belov.

Having graduated from the capital's Institute of Steel and Alloys, he not only seriously took a great interest in contemporary art, but also was able to become one of the best Russian art-managers.

Anton Belov actively participated in the work of the "ArtChronika" Foundation, created a website-guide to the exhibition halls in Moscow, supports and promotes young artists, founded an interesting project Gallery White. And in 2010 I received an offer to head "Garage" (Museum of Modern Art).

Where is and how to get there

Currently, "Garage" (Museum of Modern Art, Moscow) is located on the Crimean shaft, in Gorky Park. Its main pavilion can be found on the left side of the central alley, and the educational pavilion is located near the Pioneer Pond.
