The center of Moscow is zero kilometer

Indigenous Muscovites consider the center of Moscow to be the entire territory inside the Garden Ring. This historic center of Moscow by area is relatively small - eighteen square. Km or about two percent, if not less, of the capital's area.

A bit of history

The garden ring originated at the end of the sixteenth century and at first was an earthen rampart fortified with an oak wall. When the raids of raids from the south and west disappeared, then gradually began to pluck it. The remnants of the fire burned in 1812. When they dismantled all the debris, then on the vacated square, made ring roads, lined with front gardens. In the 30s of the last century, the gardens were cut down, and in the 40s and 50s all the Garden Ring was already an asphalt road, on which stood three famous Stalin skyscrapers.

Moscow - city center

Moscow is a huge city, and everyone living in it will find what it considers to be the center. But the most natural thing to look for is about a kilometer. It always began from the Central Telegraph. And now for the roads this sign is installed in front of the Resurrection Gate, which connects Red Square with Manege. The second zero mark also stands on Red Square. If you draw a line that connects the Mausoleum and GUM, then this zero point will be in the center.

Red Square

It is the source of all the radial streets in the capital and the very center of Moscow. It stands on the newly rebuilt GUM, the Historical Museum and the restored Voskresensky Gate. Passing through them, we get to the Alexander Garden and to the hotels "Moscow" and "Four Seasons" (three stars). Passing them, you can look into the underground shopping complex Okhotny Ryad. And here already in two steps, or rather in three minutes, and five-star hotel "National". It stands at the intersection of Mokhovaya and Tverskaya streets near Okhotny Ryad metro station. Nearby are the hotels "Watercolor" and "Budapest".

There is also an equally refined but completely new hotel "Ritz-Carlton" nearby. Moving upwards, we will meet "Inter-Continental", and even higher - "Sheraton Palace". These are modern five-star hotels. Hotels in the center of Moscow are located tightly.

On one of the oldest streets - Tverskaya - from the 12th century there was a highway that led to the neighboring principality. It became the main one in the seventeenth century. And under Peter the Great, she became the road leading to the new capital. It always had the most beautiful houses and shops. Eliseevsky deli was built one hundred and fourteen years ago. He immediately attracted attention with luxurious interiors in Empire style, exquisite wines and exotic freshest products, which were sold there. Interesting fact: slightly spoiled food was eaten every evening by shop workers. They were strictly forbidden to take them out or throw them away. He loves to visit both guests and residents of the capital. It is impossible not to mention the nearby Filippovskaya bakery, which was the first to bake buns with raisins. It has a coffee hall. The hotel is attached to the building, which is called "Lux".

Theatre Square

If you leave it, you can not bypass the Bolshoi and Maly theaters and the Metropol Hotel (five stars). It was built in modern style, decorated with a ceramic panel "Princess of Dream", which is made according to the drawings of Vrubel. Immediately next to the Theater Passage and Neglinnaya Street - the hotel "Savoy" and "Ararat Park Hyatt Moscow". The center of Moscow is simply packed with hotels of extra class.

Triumphal Square

It is located at the intersection of Tverskaya Street and the Garden Ring. This is also the center of Moscow. Previously, it was called Mayakovsky Square. It houses the Theater of Satire, the hotel "Beijing" (three stars), which is famous not only for comfort, but also for a restaurant. Music lovers in two steps from the metro Mayakovskaya will find the Concert Hall. P.I. Tchaikovsky.

The Metropolitan

In the 30 years the first subway line was opened. And immediately in the repertoire of Utyosov appeared the song "Old cabbies". In the modern underground there are about two hundred stations. In order not to get confused, there is a scheme in each car. The stations are planned according to the radial-circular principle. The ring line itself is one. All other radial, often branches. The three oldest lines - Sokolnicheskaya, Zamoskvoretskaya and Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya - were discovered in the prewar years. During the war, Muscovites used them as bomb shelters.
