The best rock ballads: foreign and domestic

A rock ballad is a beautiful slow melodic song. Often such compositions are loved not only by true fans of the genre, but also by those who prefer usually lighter music. Let's remember the best rock ballads, but first we will understand what is the difference between these songs and the usual "medljaks".

Distinctive features of rock ballads

The sound of these songs is pure and melodic. The thing is that they usually record them using acoustic guitars and keyboard instruments. Perhaps this also plays a role in the fact that the number of cover versions on rock ballads is so great.

Sometimes at the end of a song electric guitars are a powerful loser. This gives the composition a special drive, charges it with frenzied energy, which is so appreciated by people in love with rock music. And very often the best rock ballads are just such piercing, soul-taking songs.

Sometimes such compositions are recorded by musicians in acoustic orchestral arrangements. It is not uncommon for rock groups to perform them at concerts together with a symphony orchestra. However, such performances are practiced, of course, only by well-known bands, in the performance of which the best rock ballads sound.

About the musicians who perform such songs

Traditionally, the leader in the number of rock ballads remains the German band Scorpions. In 2000, a whole album of lyrical songs was released, recorded by the team members together with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. And the compositions "Still Loving You", "Wind of Change" and "Send Me An Angel" are known to everyone.

Many compositions of The Beatles can also be safely attributed to rock ballads. This and "Yesterday", and "Something", and loved by many "Let It Be". And the song "Hey Jude", the longest track ever recorded by the band, is considered one of the best rock ballads of its time.

Led Zeppelin - another team that has enriched the world's musical heritage with a lot of lyrical melodies. At the same time the composition "Stairway to Heaven" is considered classical and is recognized as one of the most soulful in the history of rock music.

In addition, the best rock ballads gave the world to Roy Orbison, Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Elton John and Chris de Burg. But not only foreign performers contribute to the creation of the most romantic songs on the planet.

Russian rock ballads

These songs are known, probably, to every Russian person. They are able to tune into a wave of reflection, to become the best company, if suddenly it happens to grieve, and maybe give a real peace. Their texts are memorized by heart, they are listened to and put on repeat, they are loved.

Known lyricists are musicians of the group "Aria". "Take My Heart", "Lost Paradise", "Shard of Ice", "Careless Angel" - these songs are loved not only by admirers of Valery Kipelov's art. They are like a lot of people.

No less famous are rock ballads performed by the Nautilus Pompilius group. These are "Walks on the water", "Casanova", "Breath" and, perhaps, the most heartfelt song of the collective "I want to be with you".

"Veter", "Rain", "In the last autumn" of the group "DDT", "Black Moon", "Eternal Love", "Opium for Anybody", "Agatha Christie", as well as "Nobody Will Hear" and " Not with me "of the group" Chaif ". A rock ballad is also the song "The Golden City" by Boris Grebenshchikov, and the famous "Crossroads" by Andrei Makarevich.

No less famous are the rock ballads "Spleen": "Romance", "There is no way out," "Sing to me yet." Some compositions "Bi-2" and Zemfira can also be attributed to ballads. This is "Silver", "My Rock and Roll", which Shura and Lyova performed together with Chicherina, as well as very famous songs "Want", "London" and "We are broken".

The best romantic rock songs according to the version of the magazine "Rolling Stone"

The well-known American magazine "Rolling Stone" made its rating of rock ballads. Applicants for the title of the best turned out to be so much that instead of the usual top-10 was announced a list consisting of twelve compositions.

So, the twelfth place in this rating was taken by the song U2 "With or Without You". At the eleventh place, we already mentioned "Hey Jude". The dozen was opened by the composition "Free Bird" of the tragically famous collective Lynyrd Skynyrd. Tragically, because fans still remember the terrible plane crash of 1977, which took the lives of its three members.

In the ninth place Pearl Jam with the song "Black", on the eighth - Marvin Gay and "Let's Get It On". On the line above rose the song "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd. The sixth place is taken by the song "Purple Rain" by Prince, blues performer.

On the fifth line of the rating - again "Beatles", but this time with the song "Let It Be". The fourth place - Guns N'Roses and their famous "November rain".

The best foreign rock ballads - according to the version of "Rolling Stone" - are ranked as follows:

  • An honorable third place - the song "Wild Horses" of the Rolling Stones ;
  • "Silver" from the composition "Something" (and again the "Beatles");
  • The best rock ballad - "Stairway to Heaven" Led Zeppelin.
