Facts from the past

The old building of this prayer house was erected in 1883 to donations of the rich banker Lazar Solomonovich Polyakov. A synagogue was designed on Bronny by the then famous engineer and architect Mikhail Nikolayevich Chichagov who decided to build the building in the Moorish architectural style.

The territory on which the structure was located was surrounded by a high fence, and in the prayer house there was a secret underground passage designed to save Jews in the event of possible pogroms.

After the revolution of the last century, the first classroom was closed in this spiritual center, where only boys received knowledge. A little later, in 1937, the synagogue in Moscow was also sealed on Bronnaya, and the rabbi was killed by representatives of the GPU.

Two years later, this building was transferred to the needs of the Council of Trade Unions, and then to the House of artistic amateur performance. The authorities of the USSR decided to rebuild the structure in such a way that nothing more resembled in its appearance that there used to be a prayer house here. Only in the early nineties this building was again returned to the Jewish community.

Six years later, an attempt was made to blow up the prayer house with the help of a TNT bomb planted in it. On that day the synagogue on Bronnaya hosted a children's event, but fortunately the explosive device was discovered and rendered harmless a few hours before it began.

This test of the center of the Jewish community did not end, and in 2003 an unknown criminal planted a bomb right at the main entrance of the building with the wick already lit. By a lucky chance, the person passing by noticed the device and pulled the cord, thereby preventing the explosion. The attacker's fingerprint was compiled, but, unfortunately, as in previous cases, this did not yield any results.

In 2004, after a long reconstruction of the synagogue on Bronnaya was solemnly opened, after which it was subjected to another terrorist attack, during which eight people were injured. This time the offender was detained by the son of a rabbi and punished by merit.
