Symptoms of sunstroke in children, what are they?

In summer, many parents through their fingers look at the fact that their children spend a long time on the street, the beach, in the courtyard - in general, in the fresh air. It would seem that this is bad? In general, nothing except for one extremely unpleasant thing - overheating of the body.

What are the symptoms of sunstroke in children? In general, they can be similar to the symptoms of any inflammatory process. The child can suddenly become lethargic or, conversely, too excited. In addition, he begins to shake his head on either side or toss it back. In general, in very young children only these symptoms produce overheating.

Another significant symptom of sunstroke is an increased body temperature. In especially severe cases, it can reach a level of 42 degrees, and this is an indication for an urgent hospitalization of the victim, since at such temperatures the symptoms of sunstroke in children are often accompanied by hallucinations, delirium, coma, often followed by death.

The infants are particularly vulnerable to sunstroke in the heat, as they have an unstable nervous system, and the mechanisms of thermoregulation in a small organism are not as well established as in an adult. Therefore, urgently seek the help of a doctor if on a walk or at home you notice the following symptoms of sunstroke in children:

  • Lethargy;
  • Nausea;
  • Complaints of a headache;
  • Fever;
  • General malaise;
  • Difficulty breathing;
  • Loss of consciousness, full or partial.

You should immediately sound an alarm and start rescue activities. What actions should be taken first of all with a sunstroke in the child? Immediately remove it from the sun. It is best if you move the child into a shaded cool room with a constant circulation of fresh air. Do not put the child in cool water, even if you are on the shore of the pond, just wipe it with a damp towel.

So, the child has a sunstroke. First aid will also be to release him from excess clothing. Instead, the best way is to wrap the baby's body with a wet sheet. After this, it is necessary to restore the water-salt balance in the body. To do this, provide the baby with a copious drink. Only in any case not sweet juices or soda, it is best if it is not too cold ordinary drinking water. You can slightly acidify it with lemon juice. Or make a water-salt solution: half a teaspoon of salt diluted in three glasses of water. Give the child a drink of this drink, and then call the doctor.

In any case, try to follow the recommendations of pediatricians in the summer on how to protect the child from sunstroke. Do not let him stay in the sun for a long time, especially at noon. Be sure to have access to drinking water, and the child wears a light hat on the street. Encourage him to use creams with UV filters, so that the delicate skin does not burn. In this case, the symptoms of sunstroke in children will be for you only words.
