The size

If too small, the electrode will not reach the combustion chamber. Ignition will be difficult. Dimensions should be the same as on old ones.

The calibrated number indicates the thermal operating mode. The higher the number, the better. On the 405-m engine it is recommended to use candles with a higher glow number. This motor is a forced analog of the 406th. At the moment, the indicator of the caliber number can be from 11 to 26. Below we give the thermal characteristic:

• The calylic number is from 11 to 14. These are the so-called hot candles. They are used on low-powered engines. In such power units, the electrodes are self-cleaning at low temperatures. If they are used on forced engines, they will quickly be covered with carbon.
• The calylic number is from 20 to 26. They include cold candles. They are used mainly on forced and turbocharged internal combustion engines. At maximum power, less heat is needed to self-clean the electrode.

Also there are unified candles. Their parameter is from 11 to 20. They can also be used on engines of the Volga motor plant.

Single-electrode spark plugs

"GAZelle" has long been equipped with such elements. Their design is very simple. On top is a white ceramic case, and from below - a glass with a metal thread. There is a central and a side electrode, due to which a spark is produced. Their diameter is 2.5 millimeters. The main advantage of such candles is low cost. But there are disadvantages. If you have a forced engine, they will not be able to unleash the full potential of the power. They are also less durable than their counterparts.

Among the manufacturers it is worth paying attention to the company "BOSCH", "Denso", "Beru" and "Champion". As for the latter, a copper electrode (both central and lateral) is used here. Thanks to this, the heating of elements is significantly reduced. Their resource is an order of magnitude higher than their counterparts.

Also note the manufacturer NGK. What are the prices for these spark plugs ("GAZelle")? The cost of a set of candles from this manufacturer is up to a thousand rubles (four cylinders). Feature of the product - the presence of a special central electrode. It is sawn in half, which significantly reduces the risk of carbon deposits. Multielectrode

In contrast to the first type, where one electrode was tried to be divided, 3-4 elements are used here at once. We note the main advantages:

• The best sparking. Due to the presence of more side electrodes, carbon deposits on one of them are not a hindrance.
• There are both cold and hot items on sale.
• The ignition of the fuel itself occurs strictly in the center.
• Excellent for forced engines, since it is better to ignite the fuel in the cylinder chamber.

As for the shortcomings, it is worth noting only a higher price for such spark plugs. "GAZelle" is a commercial vehicle, so it is worth choosing a compromise option. Many use the first type of candles, but only one where the electrodes are divided into two parts. But if you decide to purchase a more technological and expensive type, you should pay attention to the manufacturers of "Brisk", "Bosch" and NGK.

Resistor

When buying a new set of candles, pay attention to the presence of a resistor. If there is an R on the ceramic part, this is a good sign.

Such candles will be protected from breakdowns, and accordingly, they will last much longer. Their price is 10 percent higher than usual, but for this it is worth overpaying - note the responses of car owners.

Gas

Surely you've heard that there are specialized gas candles on the "GAZelle". Gas has a higher octane number, unlike gasoline. And such candles have their own peculiarity. Their electrode is much thinner than usual.

But is it worth using them without fail if there is a HBO installed on the machine? As practice shows, ordinary candles with a thick electrode do an excellent job. So do not overpay for gas candles. Especially since the car requires a good warm up on gasoline.

What in the end to choose?

Installation

"GAZelle" is preliminarily put on the transfer. Then you need to remove the high-voltage wires. They are taken out for a thickened base.

Do not handle the wire itself. So you will damage the element. Unscrewing the old ones, we install the purchased candles into place. We twist the effort of one hand. If you overdo it, you can break the thread. Do not force the key.

Next, set back the armored car (for the same base) and go to the next cylinder. Please note that you need to take them one at a time. Otherwise, you can not determine which wire was responsible for this or that cylinder. So, put everything in place and check the performance. Usually on new candles the car is started from a half-turn. This completes the installation.

Adjustment

Over time, it is required to check the spark plug clearance. GAZelle works under load. And sometimes the candle can not give out the right spark. If the machine has stopped normally pulling, you should unscrew the spark plug and check the gap between the electrode and the base. It should be between 0.8 and 1 millimeter. It is checked by means of a special feeler (which is exposed to the gaps in the valves). If the value is higher than normal, you should restore it. How to do it? The candle electrode is very flexible, so it can be bent by tapping on the metal or plastic part of the engine (for example, the valve cover). With light punches, you restore the parameter. If "overdone", it does not matter - to increase the gap can be a thin minus screwdriver.

Exploitation

Over time, check the candles for plaque and watch the gap. When properly used, these items are nursed 60,000 each. When this mileage is reached, the candles are replaced with a set of new ones.
