Socialization of the person: stages of the life path

Under the process of socialization of the individual, psychologists understand the assimilation and comprehension of a person's social experience, generally accepted morality, rules of behavior, cultural and everyday traditions. In this case, each individual performs his own reassessment of values, accepting or rejecting the proposed or imposed norms of society. It is in the process of this choice that the process of becoming and self-education of the individual takes place.

He has been looking for his "place under the sun" since his birth, passing through the primary process of social adaptation, first in his own family, then in a children's institution and school.

For the initial stage, the non-critical attitude of an individual to generally accepted standards is characteristic. The child and adolescent are more likely to imitate the collective, to adapt. And if a child of a kindergarten age accepts the model of his family's behavior, the junior schoolchildren are more focused on the collective. He aspires not to differ from his peers by external signs. The standard for him are his friends, classmates. From them the child adopts manners of behavior, style of clothes and even hobbies and interests.

By the age of seven, the child is beginning to realize that parents are not the only role model. And by the age of nine, children are taking a critical look at things altogether. Moms and dads cease to be for them an indisputable authority. However, respect for the experience of the adult person in the child is still preserved, so it is very important that during this period, a good teacher or coach appeared next to him.

The child's mind is influenced by various external factors. This is the media (radio, television, the Internet), parents and teachers. But the socialization of adolescents is unthinkable without their communication with peers. Moreover, friends and friends, at a certain stage in the life of the child, even a larger role begins to play than mom and dad. But this does not mean that parents should zealously protect a teenager from such communication, rudely interfere in his personal life.
This behavior of adults prevents the development of the child's self-awareness, the formation in him of responsibility for his own behavior and deeds.

Socialization of the individual is the search for one's place in society, for a schoolboy in the role of such a society are classmates, parents, teachers. It is in the process of interacting with them that the child hones the most important communication skills, adopting established norms of behavior, traditions. At this stage, it is difficult to do without conflicts, but the search for effective solutions to overcome them has a significant impact on the development of the individual as a whole.

In the future, the socialization of the individual goes through the stage of individualization, for which the desire of a person to become unlike the others is characteristic, will stand out from the crowd. During this period a young man or girl already has some life experience on the basis of which they critically overestimate the moral and moral norms accepted in society. According to psychologists, it is at the age of 18 to 25 years is the development of stable personality properties, the formation of the worldview.

Socialization of the personality proceeds successfully if in the process a person interacts productively with the society while preserving its own uniqueness.

The stage of individualization passes into the stage of integration, on which the individual strives to take his place in a society that either accepts or rejects it. In the latter case, there are two possible behaviors: an individual retains his differentness, entering into conflict with society, or, on the contrary, tries to adapt, resorting to conciliation and conformism.

We can say that the socialization of the individual is a process that lasts a lifetime. Man not only acquires new experience, but also enriches it in the process of labor and social activity. In the event that the personal qualities and creative potential of an individual representative are fully in demand by society, one can say that the socialization of the individual is successful.
