Snoring in a child: causes and treatment

Often there is a snoring in the child. According to statistics, 5% of children who underwent examination show episodic apnea during sleep, and 15 have snoring. The mechanism of snoring is the same at any age. It begins when the muscle of the soft palate, tongue, throat relaxes. The air produces a vibration of the palatine curtain, and snoring is formed.

There are various causes of snoring in children.

First, it is a cold disease, the origin of which has a viral component. In such cases, children have swollen nasal mucosa, the palatal tongue and soft palate thicken , nasal breathing is disrupted, as a result of which the palatal pharynx in the sleep narrows.

With such manifestations, parents need to put the pillow higher, make the room humidify the air (by hanging a wet towel next to the bed or using a nebulizer), clean the baby's nose and dig in the nasal cavity with a solution of salt.

The second reason, which causes difficult nasal breathing and children's snoring, is allergic edema. In this situation, you should use anti-allergic drugs. For children over the age of two, desensitizing sprays will work, for the younger ones a usual physiological solution (sodium chlorine 9%) is used. It is possible to take antiallergic drugs inside.

Frequent causes of child's snoring are adenoid growths (vegetative adenoid) of nasopharyngeal tonsils. Such a state in children leads to difficulties for the passage of air through the external respiratory tract, it becomes difficult for the child to breathe through the nose, which is less and less involved in the respiration process, since the adenoids close the nasal cavity. Usually, such difficulties arise in children younger than 10-12 years.

With these symptoms, consultation with an otolaryngologist is necessary, which usually prescribes surgery. To prevent the occurrence of adenoids and exclude snoring in a child, one should not allow frequent diseases of the nasopharynx, it is necessary to perform a hardening in the spring-summer period of a child's organism.

Snoring in a child can occur as a result of an increase in the thymus gland, which is a hormonal immune organ that affects the growth of the child's body, and also ensures its protection against diseases. The reverse development of the thymus gland occurs at the age of 13-14 years. Excessive enlargement of the gland causes danger to children. In children up to 2 years old - this can be the cause of sudden death, since the thymus gland squeezes out large nerves and vessels. Also, when it increases, it becomes difficult to inhale, and breathing itself takes a noisy, shirodozny shade. Very pronounced symptoms become with physical activity or with anxiety, as well as during the feeding of the child. As a result of noisy bouts of breath, thickening of the palatal tongue and soft palate occurs.

At such displays the consultation of the doctor-pediatrist which should appoint or nominate ultrasonic research is necessary. To alleviate the condition, the elevated position of the child in bed is recommended, it is impossible to overfeed the baby in the evening, in order to avoid regurgitation of food. It is required to carry out preventive measures to prevent viral diseases.

The cause of snoring can be severe pathology of the central nervous system, genetic diseases. The mechanism of the deviation is the same. However, the basis of what snoring occurs in a child is a violation of the cranial cerebral innervation of the pharynx, soft palate and tongue. In this case, a consultation of a neurologist is required to prescribe a comprehensive treatment for the causative disease.
