"Silver Coat of Arms", Chukovsky: a story about how to stand against the circumstances
Lessons, school, gymnasium - all this evokes memories of childhood. Kornei Ivanovich Chukovsky in the fifth grade survived a sharp, rude, unfair rejection from his studies, because he was the son of a laundress. He still hoped that he would remain a schoolboy, but in front of all his classmates his silver coat of arms was torn off his cap. The boy was humiliated to the extreme because he was poor. The book "The Silver Coat of Arms" teaches us not to surrender under any circumstances and always feel like a person, not a slave.
Remembering childhood
Being already a wise man, the writer returned to his dear memories. He wanted the readers to learn and love his proud mother, friend Timosh, the history teacher Ivan Mitrofanovich, nicknamed Finti-Monti, and hated the director of the grammar school of Burgmeister and his sycophants. The description of these people gives the story "The Silver Coat of Arms". Chukovsky wrote about them 26 chapters with an epilogue.
Grammar schools existed only for the elite
At the lesson of the Law of God, our young hero and his neighbor were very bored. They came up with an innocent fun - counting with the priest, how many times he would say his words-parasites "yes-yes-yes" during the lesson. This is what happened. And the neighbor looked like a penitent sinner, and Kolya honestly told what he was doing. This caused the anger of Father Melentius. Kolya was summoned to the director of the gymnasium, Burgmeister. There was already one sufferer who buried his diary with bad grades. But the diary was found, and now the director has long and tediously threatened the "criminal." And then Burgmeister started to Kolya. And he remembered the leprosy that occurred two years ago, and most importantly, accused him that it was he who had learned to dig a diary.
Mom and friends
The whole drama was that Kolya's beautiful, bold, proud mother had a dream that her son would receive an education. He will never engage in dirty work, which takes away all the strength and ability to think from a person. Only studying at the gymnasium and then at the university allowed the beggar boy to enter the world of free wealthy people. The symbol of this was the schoolgirl's cap and its silver coat of arms. Chukovsky tells how Kolya suffered for three days and could not decide to upset his mother, whom he strongly and strongly loved. Friends came up with different plans to help him return to school, but it was all unworkable. Together with Kolya from the gymnasium, Ivan Mitrofanovich, the favorite teacher of history, was fired.
Lomonosovs not flood
And Kolya began to work. First on the roof - he scraped a rust spatter and last year's paint with a spatula, followed by painters. When winter came, he worked with his older sister Marusya as a tutor. Thanks to the money they earned, they allowed Mom to quit washing and start embroidering. Mom was a real embroider artist. Her work gradually learned the whole city, and she had many interesting orders. Kolya learned not only the grammar school program, but also the English language tutorial. Now in the script he could read Dickens, Shakespeare, Walter Scott, Edgar Allan Poe. Here are both dramatic and lyrical events occurred in the story "The Silver Coat of Arms". Chukovsky will later tell you how difficult it was for the washer son to take examinations at the gymnasium externally and obtain a certificate. But the third time Nicholas received it.
That ended the childhood
Kolya bought a second-hand student's cap on a flechette. Mom, black-browed and stately, did not leave the courtyard before, and now she began to walk everywhere with her son and proudly said: "My son is a student." Soon, in her conversations, a phrase appeared, which she liked even more: "My son is now a writer."
This is a short but entertaining story about the honor and dignity of a person who finds himself in difficult, seemingly desperate circumstances. The story of the troubles and victories of a teenager is the "Silver Coat of Arms". Chukovsky gave a brief account of his childhood in a light, clear language and with great humor.
