The village is visited by the officer Milon, whom Sofia was familiar with in Moscow. They love each other, but due to life circumstances they had to part. Milo, after learning about Sophia's engagement, is first tormented by jealousy, but later he learns about what Mitrofan is, and calms down a little.

Prostakov loves her son very much. She hires his teachers, but at the same time, he did not even learn to read and write at the age of sixteen. The boy continually complains to his mother that the teaching makes him sad. On which Prostakova comforts her son, promising to soon marry him.

The name of Prostakova symbolizes ignorance and ignorance. The main feature of this heroine is a blind love for her son. At the end of the work, Mitrofanushka's mother sinks to the point where she begins to use assault on Skotinin. Prostakov is a combination of impudence, hatred, anger and cowardice. Characteristic features of this hero - sincerity, nobility, discretion. Even in difficult situations, he does not lose sanity. Hearing about the engagement of Sophia, he represents Mitrofan as an educated and worthy person. And only afterwards his opinion about the rival is changing. It is this hero in one of the last actions trying to reconcile Prostakov with his brother, reminding them that they are close people.
