Hybrid of gooseberries and currants black: reviews, photos. What is it called?

The result of the grandiose selection work of German specialists in the last third of the twentieth century resulted in the breeding of an interesting berry, which is a hybrid of black currants and gooseberries. It is called unusually - joshta. But this name is already familiar to Russian rumor. The new promising shrub has conquered many domestic gardeners not only by the unconditional use of large delicious berries and high degree of decorativeness, but also by the undemanding culture in care and cultivation, and by the excellent ability to adapt quickly to the proposed growth conditions.

Joshta: features of the form

The fruit of yoshty perfectly combines the aroma of black currant with muscular notes of gooseberry. Withdrawing this culture, the breeders sought to improve the properties of both berry fruit, increase yield, resistance to traditional diseases and the lack of thorns. A hybrid of gooseberries and currants is a powerful, spreading, bush shrub that has considerable growth power and is capable of forming strong shoots that reach a length of one and a half to two meters in a season. An adult fruiting bush consists of 18-20 uneven aged stems. The diameter of the crown is 2 meters, and the roots are not deeper than 0.5 m. Small dense green leaves hold firmly on the stems and fall only in the very cold. The flowers are large, bright yellow, they bloom the bush completely during flowering.

Fruits of yoshty

Large, black, with a purple tint, sweet-sour berries weighing 3-6 g each are collected in a brush for 5-6 pieces. Vitamin-rich fruits, even fully ripening, do not crumble, but due to dense skin they are perfectly transported. Joshta has a very high resistance to many diseases and pests, and its winter hardy qualities allow to grow shrubs throughout Russia, without resorting to shelter for the winter, with the exception of those moments when you have to warm the barely stuck cuttings. Hybrid of gooseberries and currants self-pollinate, the first yields give three years after rooting and does not lose a high level of fruit formation 15-18 years. On average, one properly formed bush gather up to ten kilograms of useful, tasty and fragrant berries.

Hybrid of gooseberry and black currant: preferences and requirements

Like many berries, the yoshtah loves open, ventilated, well-lit areas, it responds quickly to survival on fertilizer-quality organic, cultivated soils of any structural type with neutral indices. It is noticed that the plant fructifies better if gooseberries with currants are growing nearby.

The hybrid likes potassium fertilizers, but it is necessary to start using them when the crop enters the fruiting season. Until then, the shrub will be sufficient for any organic matter brought in the trunks in the fall or early spring. Since the third or fourth year, 20 g of potassium sulfate and superphosphate are added to organic fertilizers in the spring, if the state of culture requires it.

Features of landing yoshty

Plant a hybrid of gooseberry and black currant in spring or early autumn. When buying a culture in a container, the planting time does not matter, since the protected root system of the seedling is not exposed to the negative influence of open air, the roots do not dry out and rot. Plant this plant at any time throughout the summer season. Since the bush is spreader, the minimum interval between the seedlings must be at least 2 meters. This distance can be reduced to 60 cm if it is supposed to arrange a hedge and it's not about getting the maximum yield.

The approximate dimensions of the landing pit are 0.4 m in all dimensions. After digging a depression, fill it with a third of the soil layer, topped with humus or good compost, and generously watered and planted with a seedling. Roots are distributed so that they do not bend, cover with earth, compact and once again watered. Do not allow the formation of air voids around the roots, this will significantly slow the development of culture.

Reproduction

Hybrid of gooseberries and currants perfectly reproduce cuttings and offspring. To do this, in September from the annual shoots cut short (15-20 cm) cuttings with 3-4 growth buds and planted in the soil under a slight slope. Above the ground surface on the shoots, 2-3 growth buds should be left. Landings are mulching. When the cold comes, the cuttings are covered with lapnika and left to winter. Rooting with this method of cuttings reaches 85-90%.

Care of plantings

Like any culture, a hybrid of gooseberries and currants requires some care. The soil under the bushes after planting is best immediately covered with peat, humus, wood chips, plant debris or straw. Mulch stabilizes the temperature of the soil, activates the formation of roots, facilitating the rooting of plants. With its use, there is no need for weeding and loosening. The layer of mulch should be periodically padded, as it "settles" and decomposes, giving the plant additional food. Irrigation is necessary regular, but moderate.

Pruning yoshty

Since the hybrid of currants and gooseberries (photo attached) - the bush is powerful and prone to the formation of numerous shoots, it is necessary to control their growth. Therefore, pruning is mandatory. The bush begins to form from the spring following the year of planting. Of the young shoots formed, 3-4 are selected the strongest, the rest removed at the base. If necessary, cut off the tops of annual, unnecessarily long branches in autumn. Next spring, the sick, broken and weak shoots are removed, leaving 3-4 one-year-olds and the same stems of the previous year. Thus, repeating this algorithm, they achieve the formation of a properly formed bush from 18-20 stems of different ages. It should be remembered that the proliferation of the seven-year-old stem begins to decrease significantly, so it can be removed, replacing the younger shoots.

This approach to the cultivation of this still unusual for the Russian gardener plants will support high yield of the bush and its excellent decorativeness. Joshta not only gives wonderful berries that exceed the currants in terms of the composition of vitamins, but also decorate the garden area, amazing with the spring a spectacle of bright flowering, and in the summer - with heavy, black berries, twigs. Uniqueness and uniqueness will bring a hybrid of currant and gooseberry to the garden interior. Comments gardeners-lovers agree: yoshta - an amazing plant that combines the best qualities of habitual berry bushes.
