Sights of Paphos. Marvelous places

Cyprus is a country that can conquer everyone. The island has everything that is necessary for life and recreation. Magnificent sandy beaches, mountains, pine forests, vineyards, rich infrastructure, a large number of cultural monuments.

The most popular region of Cyprus is Paphos. It is an ancient city with ancient architecture, sea bays, rocky beaches and sandy beaches. The region is famous not only for the opportunity to spend holidays and relax in a quiet place, enjoying the sounds and smells of the Mediterranean nature. Sights of Paphos are known all over the world, and this is not surprising, because the history of the city begins with the IV century BC.

The archaeological museum impresses us with exhibits of antiquity dating back to the 8th century BC. The Byzantine Museum presents expositions and icons of the 12-18 centuries. The ethnographic museum is rich in objects that allow to imagine the life of the Cypriots of the Neolithic period.

Sights of Paphos Not limited to museum exhibitions. The most popular highlight is the rock of Aphrodite. It is here, according to legend, in the 12th century BC from the foam of marine appeared Aphrodite, who decided to start her earthly life. Tourists believe that if at midnight to swim three times the rock, you can meet your true love, and if you do it naked, then fertility will be assured for life.

In an area such as Paphos (Cyprus), the attractions are collected in large numbers. One of the unique can be called the Adonis bathhouse. The myth of this place tells that the beautiful Aphrodite and the god of beauty swam in this natural reservoir. Created by nature, virgin pure, it is surrounded by trees. A small waterfall rushes into the depths of the water. Next to the bathing are statues of the heroes themselves (for example, a statue of Aphrodite 10 meters high) and other gods of Greek mythology - Diaz, Athena and Priapa. Bathing in the waters of this legendary place, as the legend says, will give women infertile the joy of motherhood.

Another attraction is the Forty Column Castle. Archaeological excavations have revealed to us a large fort built of granite blocks. Most likely, it was the columns of 40 pieces that were used to build a fortress in the 7th century as the protection of the city of New Paphos from the attack of the Arabs. There is a suggestion that in the 13th century the famous fort was rebuilt on the ruins of a Byzantine castle. Not much remains of the monument of antiquity, but the arches, the remains of three-meter walls and columns allow you to see the scale of the building.

Such Paphos attractions as the underground acropolis of the Tomb of the Kings (this is the burial place of a hundred aristocrats for 6 centuries, dating back to the 3rd century BC), Roman mosaics and churches in the rocks give an idea of the different periods of the Cypriots' life. Archaeologists discovered ancient Roman villas with a magnificent mosaic on the floor. The presented drawings reflect the mythology of the ancient world and are considered a model of art of 3-5 centuries in the whole Mediterranean. And this is not all the attractions of Paphos. There are many interesting places.

In the tourist guide there is a map of Paphos with sights. With its help, it is not difficult to find out how to get to this or that place in the city. Cyprus is worthy to visit it more than once, and Paphos will become a favorite holiday destination even for the most capricious traveler.
