Rules and conditions for refunding tickets

Railway communication is one of the most convenient ways to travel. As the planning of any trip is carried out in advance, the opportunity to hand over an unnecessary ticket remains the most important service for all passengers. That there was no confusion and the passenger returned most of the cost of the failed trip, RZD developed a clear system for the return of travel documents.

Basic rules for refunding tickets

Depending on the time when the passenger turns to the return ticket office, he can claim different compensation for the cost of a ticket bought in Russia for a trip between stations inside the country.

Appeal earlier than 24 hours before the departure of the train entitles you to reissue the ticket for the train with an earlier period of departure. Up to 8 hours before the departure time guarantee a full refund (with the deduction of the box office fee).

In the interval between 8 and 2 hours before the commencement of the trip, the passenger will receive half the cost of a reserved seat and the entire cost of the ticket in a comfortable electric train. But you have to pay a fee for processing the return.

Less than 2 hours mean that a passenger can not claim a refund for a reserved seat. But for the ticket he will get the full cost.

Return Process

In the rules of RZD, the conditions for the return of railway tickets provide for the availability of a return ticket at each station, to which any passenger can apply. At the same time it is necessary to present an official document proving the identity.

If the passenger himself, on whom the travel document is issued, can not apply to the cashier, any other person having a certified power of attorney on his behalf can do it for him.

Regardless of the time when the return of the railway ticket is carried out, the commission from the operation is withdrawn in full. Only if the fault of the carrier is impossible to carry out the trip, the passenger returns the full cost without commissions and deductions.

Payment for the use of bed linen and other services included in the cost of the trip, is returned in full, regardless of the time of applying to the refund.

Under the rules of the Russian Railways, money is given to the client in the form in which he paid the ticket. Cash can be received on-site at the cash desk, and the money from the card will be transferred back to the same card within the time frame established by the procedure for this operation.

Features of a refund for an e-ticket

From a legal point of view, electronic travel documents are equated to ordinary ones, and they are subject to the same conditions for returning tickets. True, there will be a little more time left for this.

To begin with, it is worth noting that the electronic ticket is considered to be a ticket for which the boarding document has not yet been issued. To return it you need to fill in the questionnaire in writing, where you will specify all the details of the trip and the details of the card with which payment was made.

Return of electronic railway tickets is carried out at the ticket office. The money for them is transferred in a period of 2 to 180 days. In practice, on average, it will not be more than a month.

The cost of the service at the cashier is 162 rubles. The amount to be refunded depends on the time left before the proposed trip, as well as with paper tickets.

The amount of commissions and fees

Regardless of the time when the return of tickets is being carried out, the conditions of the Railways foresee the collection of the commission from each document that is submitted to the return office, even if it is carried out by one person in one session.

When purchasing electronic travel documents, a commission for the use of electronic payment systems is not returned.

The cash fee for the return procedure is a prerequisite. It is superimposed on each ticket, depending on the total cost of the travel document. Its size varies from 60 to 160 rubles.

An advertising fee is also mandatory, which is equal today to 155 rubles.

In case, for objective reasons, not dependent on the passenger (accident, illness), he could not use the ticket, the client has the right to compensation for the ticket price. In this case, the rules for refunding tickets require the provision of documentary evidence of the influence of force majeure circumstances on the impossibility of making a trip.

A request for a refund is considered on time. In case of refusal the passenger has the right to appeal this decision in a judicial procedure.

Conditions for returning tickets by proxy

In the event that a person can not personally hand over an unused travel document on time, any authorized person for this operation can do it for him.

In order to make a refund of the ticket, in addition to the travel document, you must provide the ticket office with your own passport and a power of attorney for the transaction, certified by a notary.

When you return an electronic ticket, you must first get its paper form. In this case, you need to have a power of attorney to receive the document. And already the next stage will be the return of an unused ticket in the return ticket office.

In all other respects, the commissions and the penalty for the return of railway tickets are subject to the same rules as when they personally appeal to an established authority.

If you need to pass a ticket for a child, then parents can do it by presenting a birth certificate.

Refund of tickets for international communication

To get the full cost of the ticket for communication between the countries, it is necessary to apply to the cashier no later than 24 hours before departure of the train from the station indicated by the starting point of the trip. At the same time, the commission for processing the preliminary processing of the travel document is not refundable.

Also, the conditions for the return of railway tickets include, in this case, a commission for the operation.

The passenger has the right to hand in tickets for his relatives, provided that one of these documents will be his ticket. He will receive the full amount of accompanying payments only in the case of a passport or birth certificate for each passenger for whom tickets are returned.

For compensation of half the cost of a reserved seat and the whole ticket, you can apply if the documents are returned in less than 24 hours, but not more than 6 hours before departure. 6 hours before departure and no later than 3 hours after the cost of a reserved seat is not compensated.

If tickets were purchased in the Baltic countries or in the CIS, the money for the trip is returned to the place of purchase, and the ticket itself is canceled. With such a document it will be necessary to apply to the cashier of the country where the travel document was purchased, and all means will be returned in accordance with local ticket refund rules. At the same time, the time of application is considered to be the time of the interruption of the validity of the travel document.
