Probably, there is no such person, let alone a theatrist who does not know the name of Roman Viktyuk. The theater created by him attracts with its extremism, a completely new view of human relations and, it seems, has its own philosophy. But first things first…

History of the theater

The idea of creating the theater originated in 1991, and its author was undoubtedly Roman Viktyuk himself. The theater originated from an entreprise. Her first production was an outrageous performance "M. Butterfly ", the authorship of D. G. Juan.

At that time many actors joined the theater, with whom Roman Viktyuk was previously familiar. The theater was named public five years after its first premiere, in 1996. At that time in the performances many stars of the first magnitude took part.

Now the theater occupies a building on Strominka, which he received together with the title of state theater. The construction of the building itself is quite interesting. The auditorium occupies 70% of its area. In addition, the space can be changed with the help of "hanging balconies" and additional partitions.

As artistic director of the theater, Roman Viktyuk staged about 200 different performances. Quite often they are oriented to the stars themselves and are put specially for them.

The repertoire of the theater is rather difficult to describe, given the huge number of plays that have been staged here during its entire existence. The brightest of them:

Theater of the Novel Viktyuk. "Maidens"

Among all the performances of Roman Viktyuk, many have already become legendary. Probably, every theatre can call his own, which became his favorite. For some, this is "Our Decameron", others are crazy about "Music Lessons", still others remember "Madam Butterfly". However, the "maids" are something else. Some people call them decadent, others are a bit wicked, but at the same time there is a lot of humor in the play that looks more like banter.

For the first time the audience saw this performance in 1988, and it became an epoch-making theatrical event. Critics have repeatedly called it a manifesto of new theatrics. However, at the first edition of the production her story did not end, she continued to "blow up" both the viewer and the theater itself. Roman Viktyuk returned to her two more times: right after the founding of his own theater in 1991 and in 2006.

There is an opinion that all the performances that Roman Viktyuk puts on love. However, the production of "The Servant" proves the opposite. It deals with a life in which there is no love, of emptiness and despair. The "maidens" disclose before us a world of slavery, in which even love is forbidden. But the idea runs through the whole play that people choose their own slavery, regardless of whether it is manifested: work, love, or family.

Actors who had the opportunity to play in this brilliant production are Dmitry Bozin (Solange), Alexander Soldatkin (Claire), Alexei Nesterenko (Madame), Ivan Nikulcha (Monsieur). As we see, all roles, including women, are performed by men. Probably, this makes the production special. In the lips of women, the replica of the maids would look grotesque and ridiculous. Men are reporting the idea, which was laid by the author of the play by Jean Genet. Undoubtedly, Roman Viktuk was able to develop it and bring it to the audience. The theater, which became his brainchild, and the plays that he staged, in particular "The Servants", seem to balance on the brink of a foul. But this does not stop the audience. The play has been going on successfully for many years.

Impression of viewers after viewing

Considering the specifics of the theater of Roman Viktyuk, the feedback from the viewers is always ambiguous. Some consider him a genius, others can not understand the difficult direction and decisions of the artistic director. But still, the first, those who are eagerly awaiting the premiere of the new production, are much more.

Many spectators note that after watching many of his productions, I want to see them again, to come back and relive those emotions that the actors' game caused, but what exactly, everyone decides for himself. One thing remains unchanged: fantasy, drive and the enormous talent that Roman Viktyuk has. The theater, which he founded, will continue to amaze the spectator with his shocking performances for a long time.
