Founders of it can be called the group Venom, Celtic Frost, Death, Possessed. The direction is distinguished by rough vocals, a dark and heavy melody and lyrics. The trademark is a growling. The sixties in the US and Western Europe were marked by the appearance of an extraordinary direction - psychedelic rock. The creativity of the musicians of this trend arose on the basis of the use of hallucinogenic drugs. During their performances, the collectives used various effects that influenced the eyesight and hearing of the fans, causing a change in consciousness. The founders are The Grateful Dead, 13th Floor Elevators. Groups of this style often use ethnic tools. Subsequently, some musicians began to relate to the flow of the hippies, and some turned into progressive rock. Appearance attracts combinations of bright colors with gloomy black color, unusual hairstyles and accessories. Folk-rock can be called a "folk" genre. The direction of fate, which includes elements of folklore. Originally it appeared in America in the 60s of the 20th century. The founders were The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, The Band, Bob Dylan, Alan Stivell, James Taylor and others. The style of folk also has different currents. These are blues-rock, country, electric-folk, folk-punk, keltik-rock, midwal-folk-rock, neo-folk, folk-metal. Representatives of folk in Russia are the groups "Kalinov Bridge", "Corn", "Mill", "Pelageya", "Heather", "Return" and others.

The second branch is post-punk, which was founded by Joy Division, The Raincoats, Cabaret Voltaire. There are also such currents as hardcore, anarcho-punk, pop punk.

As for the development of this genre in Russia, the pioneers can be called the groups "Automatic Satisfactors" and "Second Echelon". Since 1985 there has been a division only into punk and new wave. The first was necessary because of constant oppression of the authorities. But in the struggle for existence were born such groups as "Brigade contract", "Diogenes", "Vinegar-bend" and others. One of the most extraordinary teams that played "philosophical punk" was "Civil Defense". The collective led by Yegor Letov immediately became a cult. It is impossible not to mention the "Gaza Strip", which still has thousands of fans. In the 90s, punk music blossomed even more vividly thanks to the creativity of the "King and the Jester", "Cockroaches", "Purgen", "Elysium", "Leningrad" and others.

Russian rock

The musical direction of rock in Russia fulfills an important mission. It can be represented as "the voice of the people". Initially, rock musicians in our country sang songs, the texts of which called for freedom, equality, ridiculed the "gray mass". Performances in the Soviet era were flat, so to speak, underground. The first bands performed rock ballads of Western bands, rarely - songs of their own compositions. These are such representatives as "Flowers", "Ruby attack", "Araks", "Leap years". Due to the lack of good instruments, sound recording equipment, Russian rock music was minimal, the main role was played by the text. In such socially critical conditions there were legendary groups "Kino", "Nautilus Pompilius", "Aquarium", "Time Machine" and others.

The beginning of perestroika gave a breath of fresh air for creative activity. At this time there are rock clubs. In Leningrad, there were groups "DDT", "Zoo", "Cinema", "Alice", "Aquarium". In Moscow - "Resurrection", "Sounds of Mu", "Time Machine". In the clubs of Siberia and the Urals, Yegor Letov, Yanka Diaghilev, Nautilus Pompilius, Chaif, Agatha Christie sang. These old rock bands have fans all over Russia so far.

The work of this direction is not limited to serious social texts and heavy music. Rock ballads harmoniously entered the repertoire of musicians. Rock Festivals in Russia

The first large-scale open meeting of musicians was organized by the Leningrad Rock Club in 1983. The following groups took part in the festival: Picnic, Strange Games, Pilgrim, Aquarium, Rossians, Myths, Zoo, Manufaktura and others. The teams were awarded with diplomas of different degrees and diplomas. In total, the club held seven meetings. The latter was held in 1989.

Today, the number of festivals has increased tens of times. Almost every region arranges such events. The most ambitious, perhaps, are:

1. «Old New Rock». It has been held in Yekaterinburg since 2000. Usually the festival includes performances of 7-8 headliners and 20-30 young bands. The audience is going to 3-5 thousand. For participation it is necessary to submit an application to the Organizing Committee. The jury represented by E. Gorenburg, A. Khomenko, V. Samoilov, V. Shakhrin and others selects the most interesting collectives.
2. "Invasion". The festival since 2004 is held in the Tver region. The groups speak for three days. Fans of the genre come from all over Russia. At times there are more than 150 thousand people. The musicians perform in two, three scenes, divided by style. Headliners play on the main court.
3. "The Cuban". For the first time the bands started performing on the Black Sea coast since 2009. This event takes 3-5 days and gathers not only musicians from Russia, but also foreign stars. For example, in 2014 Korn will perform at the festival, and in 2013 they played System of a Down, Prodigy, Guano Apes. The number of spectators is more than 200 thousand.
4. Dobrofest. The festival is organized since 2010 in the Yaroslavl region. The groups perform on two stages for three days.
5. "Maksidrom". The opening took place in 1995. The festival is held in Moscow, on the territory of Tushino airfield. Perform both Russian and foreign rock bands.
6. «Rock over the Volga». The annual festival, held in the Samara region since 2009. The meeting is one-day, but the number of spectators sometimes reaches 250 thousand. In addition to Russian musicians, foreign stars also play.
7. "Island". Arkhangelsk region also did not stand aside and in 2012 organized its own rock festival. Fans are going to 10-14 thousand.
