In the society for all time of its existence certain stereotypes have developed. For example, a man must have masculinity, a woman - femininity. Such stereotypes exist in society since ancient times. General concept

Sexism is a world view, directly opposite to the feminist movement. In the latter the equality of the sexes is considered. Sexism is, more simply, a clear division between rights, depending on gender. Sometimes this worldview can be expressed in the form of misogyny (hatred of the ladies) or mizandriya (rejection of men). A person who adheres to such views is a sexist. This world view is usually manifested in two forms, in particular male and female chauvinism.

Manifestations in society

The followers of the movement are characterized by discrimination based on gender. Every day a person faces different prejudices. If someone does not agree with the established framework, then society will react to it disapprovingly or simply will not understand it. This is the gender policy inherent in the movement under consideration. Some of the prejudices are more concerned with the weaker sex, others with a stronger one.

Stereotypes about men

The representative of the stronger sex is the breadwinner, so he should bring the main income to the family. He also has the duty to pay joint entertainment with the chosen one.

In the case of the birth of a child, a man must provide it, even if he does not want it. This applies to those moments when a woman became pregnant specifically, resorting to cheating partner.

In terms of sexual relations, men have more freedom. It is considered normal that he can have sexual intercourse before marriage and out of it. In society it is accepted that a man should first get acquainted with a woman, dominate in everything. This also applies to sexual contact.

Men are not in vain called "strong" sex. They must be self-confident, have an imperious character and a certain amount of aggression. There are some purely "male" educational institutions. So until 2008 were Suvorov's schools, which were accepted only by young men. The same applies to conscription. The male segment of the population is liable for military service. Accordingly, in educational institutions the norms of loads are much higher.

Representatives of the stronger sex must take off the headgear when entering certain rooms, for example, in a church, or when the anthem sounds. Physically, men are considered stronger.

The problems of discrimination against women

Most often, the representative of the weaker sex only acts as a sexual object without rights. Accordingly, there can be no obligations to it. It is often believed that a woman should not have fun during sex. For a man, she is just a matter of meeting her needs. In some countries, women are circumcised. They remove the main erogenous zones (for example, the clitoris and small labia). A lady will be judged if she has a sexual relationship before marriage or has several partners. In relationships, a woman should not first get acquainted, make decisions. It should be weak, submissive and softer.

In countries where abortion is permitted, the last word is always the woman. Men's opinion often does not solve anything.

In the domestic sphere, cooking, washing, cleaning, etc. are purely female duties.

The same applies to the fact that only the mother educates the children. She is given maternity leave for child care, as well as sick leave if he is sick. In case of divorce, children are almost always left with a woman. Often such a decision is made, despite its material and social situation.

Women do not have the right to vote in all countries. In some States, the death penalty or life imprisonment is not applied to the fairer sex. They can receive parcels in unlimited quantities. And the judgments of the court against them are more loyal. There are countries where women bear heavier punishment for their misconduct.

In a number of countries, representatives of the weaker sex can not even serve in the army voluntarily. The norms of loads in educational institutions are much lower for them than for men.

Gender discrimination in the labor market

Nowadays there is a certain division of professions depending on the gender of the person. There is a prohibition (or disapproval from others) on the right to engage in a certain type of activity by sex. The stronger sex almost always has higher earnings. This is especially true of occupations in which only men work.

Ladies have a lower-paying job. This is manifested even in those areas where both women and men can be involved. The difference in their wages can be from 16% or more. Those professions that are considered female are also paid less.

Sexism is a phenomenon that is often shown to the ladies rather harshly. In particular, this concerns the inability to build a career and climb the career ladder to higher positions. This attitude towards a woman is defined by the American term "glass ceiling". To retire, men go later than women, although the life expectancy of the stronger sex is usually less.

Some beliefs related to men are by no means the intrigues of women or feminists. It is interesting that many restrictions are prescribed in the laws created by state bodies, where mostly the representatives of the stronger sex work. Some scholars believe that these stereotypes are a consequence of the patriarchy. Moreover, they restrict both women and men.

Opposite movements

Sexism is, of course, not the only, although quite steady, trend in society. There are directions, whose followers oppose established stereotypes. Antisexist movements are prevalent mainly in Western countries. They include:

2. "Informal" movements (hippies, anarchists, etc.).
