Psychological characteristics of adolescents

In the life of every person, or rather the child, the moment comes when he begins to realize that the world is much wider than his ideas, his worldview begins to change, the child ceases to rank himself as a child, but he can not even consider himself an adult. This state is called a transitional period, or scientific - pubertal age, when the body of the child begins sharp changes in the physiological structure and psycho-emotional development. Physiologists often connect many phenomena in this period with a sharp "hormonal explosion", which determines the specific behavior of the child. However, psychologists give their reasons, due to which the psychological characteristics of adolescents develop.

During this period the child has a so-called feeling of adulthood, he begins to realize the existence of his own "I", his personal qualities and seeks to form new norms of behavior, imitating adult idols. Peculiarities of the psychological development of adolescents are such that, if their consciousness changes and the desire to get their social status in society leads to the fact that the child seeks to make his own decisions, participate in the life of the family on the conditions of an adult member of society. At the same time, the contradictory behavior of the child leads to the appearance of such traits of character as purposefulness and, at the same time, lack of initiative, aggression and apathy, exaltation and isolation, which periodically replace one another for no apparent reason. This often leads adults into bewilderment. And often parents and teachers refer to this incorrectly from the position of an adult, not an equal person, which greatly exacerbates the relationship between an adult and an adolescent.

It is often said that adolescence is very aggressive and uncoordinated, that adolescents need to be directed and tell them how to act and what to do. However, this is fundamentally wrong, and does not take into account the psychological characteristics of adolescents, if the child takes the initiative in setting personal goals and tries to achieve them, do not dissuade him, be it music, dance, sports or anything. It often happens that to the detriment of school activities teenagers prefer to do what they like, parents and teachers react inadequately, trying to rebuild it, considering that it is more necessary for him. Often adults communicate with adolescents, not taking into account the psychological characteristics of adolescents, which leads to the formation of the consciousness of the so-called difficult teenager, with whom they then actively fight. The psychological characteristics of difficult adolescents differ in the wrong formation of authorities, and consequently in goals and attitudes. They begin to acquire the so-called signs of adulthood, manifested by smoking, drinking alcohol, drug addiction and the use of non-normative vocabulary. Thus, they try to assert themselves among older peers. Often they leave from close relations in the family, they are closed, which later in adult life is manifested by the inability to build adequate relations with the opposite sex and build family relationships.

Psychologists recommend adults to pay more attention to their teenage children, to take into account the psychological characteristics of adolescents, both at home and in social groups. This applies to school teachers, relatives and other adults working in school groups.

It is necessary to develop correct motivations among adolescents, to support them in setting life goals and establishing their own "I" as an individual person capable of adult deliberate deeds and new achievements.
