Harvesting and preparation of berries

Before you make sea buckthorn juice for the winter, you need to know when and how to properly prepare raw materials. Some recommendations are given below. Terms of collection depend on the varietal origin of the berries:

  1. Early sea buckthorn. Fruits ripen in early August, although the maximum concentration of nutrients is manifested in them only by the end of the month.
  2. Late sea buckthorn. Depending on the climatic zone and weather conditions, the favorable time for harvesting ripened berries ranges from the end of September to the middle of October.

Ripe fruit bright color of a dense consistency. They easily come off the twigs. If the raw material is intended for the production of oil, then the berries need to be "overexposed", without tearing them off the branches, for about two weeks. Part of the berries can be removed together with the pedicels, from which then the useful tea is brewed from the increased pressure. To avoid pricking, choose the direction to remove the bunches from the base to the end. After the first frosts, the method of "shaking" is suitable, when a large cloth is spread under the tree and a stick is carried along the trunk with a stick. Crystallized berries are easily sprinkled. Harvested raw materials, remove the spoiled fruit, remove from twigs and pour warm water. After this, rinse several times in a cold and throw it into a colander.

Variants of preparation of a drink

Sea buckthorn juice for winter can be harvested in several ways. We list some of them:

  • Distillation of raw materials through a juicer or juice processor;
  • Preliminary wiping through a sieve, and then mixing with syrup;
  • Brewing berries to soften and further filtering the juice;
  • Mixing with other fruit drinks.
