Proper care for lilies after flowering

Multicolored varieties of elegant beauties are simple enough to grow in an ordinary pot, picking up the ideal option for color and smell, suitable for a certain room in the house. If the plants pleased the eye in an open area in the garden, additional care for the lilies after flowering will be required. Small varieties are well suited for tubs and neat pots, and large representatives are grown mainly in a flower bed or on a flower bed.

Experienced gardeners recommend waiting two to three weeks after the final wilting of the peduncles, and then proceed to the division and transplantation of these plants. Domestic lilies are multiplying , planting and care of which practically do not differ from the cultivation of street varieties, children. This procedure can be postponed until September, giving young onions to get stronger in a pot or on a bed. This expectation will help the lily babies to winter well and safely, so the transplant is carried out in the fall, but not more often than once in 4-5 years.

The supervision of the garden in which the onions are sitting reduces to regular weeding so that the weeds do not infect the plants and do not draw in themselves all the useful substances. Also, care for the lilies after flowering involves loosening the soil. Weeds are removed from autumn to prevent them from growing in the spring. It is necessary to check the upper layer of the soil, if the surface of it is covered with a cracked crust - the soil must be urgently loosened. However, it is necessary to do this with the utmost care, so as not to disturb the tiny bulbs of children. The same operation requires indoor flowers. Lily, care of which includes hilling, is able to survive the frosty winter without digging.

Scrubbing and regular loosening can easily replace the mulching procedure with humus, leaves, straw, old sawdust or ordinary hay. These materials not only protect the flower from frost, but also reduce the number of possible weeds, while preserving the necessary moisture in the soil. Caring for the lilies after flowering does not involve the removal of wilted leaves or stems, otherwise the bulb may wilt or significantly suffer without the useful enzymes of the upper part of the plant. Winter-resistant varieties do not need hilling, flowers simply cover with sawdust, straw or leaves. Do it already in late autumn, so that the "blanket" does not rot before the first snow falls out from possible rains.

Caring for lilies after flowering: a simple plan

These actions are needed to preserve varieties that are unstable to frost and to get a brighter and longer flowering in the coming season:

  • After the final withering of the leaves, the bulbs are carefully removed from the ground;
  • Separate children, while it is important not to damage the roots and their processes;
  • Bulbs are treated with a solution of potassium permanganate and lightly sprinkled with charcoal fine fraction;
  • Each child is planted in a separate pot, covered with a mixture of turf, sand and humus (in a ratio of 3 to 1).

To store these pots should be without irrigation in a cool cellar (+6 о С) or buried to a depth of 40 cm. Leaving the bulbs in a garden bed on the street, 10 cm of moist peat is poured into the hole, put the container and fall asleep to the top with ordinary soil. If the winter turns out to be very cold, the pots are dug out urgently and moved to the basement.
