Porsche Boxster - super-managed supercar for minimum money

In the early 90's, the company Porsche once again went unimportantly. Cars were not sold, production fell, the company suffered losses. He invested five times more in the development of the new model of the car than the amount that Porsche itself valued, and in 1996 won this risky fight with the failure of the Porsche Boxter model . Thanks to the democratic price and high quality, this car immediately won first place in terms of sales among other models of Porsche and maintained this status until 2003, when the crossover Porsche Cayenne appeared.

The name Boxter combined two words: boxer (as the Germans call the opposite engine) and a roadster (a well-known type of body), but without a hint of fighting character here could not do. The basis was a mid-engine layout, in contrast to the rear-engine layout, used in the popular Porsche 911 model . The body of the car was designed by the author of the BMW Z1 Harm Lagaai, who took as a basis the features of the previously popular open models Porsche 550 Spyder and 356 Speedster. Because of the motor that is located under the seat, the Porsche Boxster has two trunks: rear and front.

In the first generation of the Porsche Boxster, the 6-cylinder opposed engine developed power at 217 hp. At a volume of 2.7 liters. By parts, this engine by a third inherited the engine of the famous 911, but unlike its predecessor had a liquid two-circuit cooling. Later appeared the model Porsche Boxster S, which was installed a more powerful engine in 252 hp, a volume of 3.2 liters. Both engines have two upper camshafts, and the Bosch Motronic 5.2 injection-controlled VarioCam timing system "with understanding" refers to gasoline octane number lower than 98, slightly worsening the acceleration dynamics.
