Pigeon creeping: weed control measures

Of the many species of weeds, the most common is the grassy creeper. Measures to combat it must be carried out constantly, otherwise it can fill your entire site. It's not without reason called creeping, its rhizomes are able to creep in different directions, capturing all new areas for themselves. Ways to get rid of this weed began to be developed since ancient times. The peasants "combed" the fresh arable land with harrows, thereby dragging out its roots to the surface and carrying them out to the side, resulting in whole shafts of peeled roots. That is why the wheatgrass was also called the harrow.

Since then, nothing has changed much, and gardeners are still trying to remove creepers from their tracts of grass. Fighting measures, of course, appeared new, but the old way is also used actively. It must be said that the presence of weeds entails also material costs. Firstly, because of the weeds in the soil, the consumption of natural moisture decreases, which means that cultivated plants need additional watering. Secondly, the fertility of the soil is depleted - additional fertilizing is required. And, of course, weeds are carriers of diseases and pests infecting cultivated plants.

Weeds are characterized by high productivity of seeds, which can be stored for a long time in the ground. In addition, they are able to reproduce vegetatively and with the help of rhizomes. The last of the listed methods of reproduction uses the wheat grass creeping, the photograph presented below is a confirmation.

Pyrite loves to settle on humid, friable and humus-rich soils. On them, it multiplies rapidly, especially during the autumn rains and in the wet spring. In the hot period, when the summer is arid, it slows down its vital activity, at this time of favorable conditions the creeping wheat grass waits. Measures to control this weed are as follows:

• In places with a large accumulation of this weed grass, sowing of rye helps. But it will have to sow two years in a row, but the soil will completely get rid of wheat grass.

• If you use a lawn on your site, then watch for the density of planting, you can not leave bald spots, it is there that weeds appear. Try to acquire a quality planting material, without admixture of weeds. Well, if the grass has appeared on the lawn, then systematic short mowing will help. The weed grew 5-6 cm, the lawn should be immediately mowed, usually this occurs once a week.

• It is easiest to harvest grass in spring, when shoots only appear, especially if the weed grew from seeds. The fact that the rhizome he appears only after 2 months.

• Here's another way of how to remove the wheat grass creeping. Control measures that oppress weed are planting plants that will gradually survive it. Very often, dahlias are used for this.

• Well, the last way is the chemical effect on the weed. Such preparations as "Roundup Ultra" and "Roundup Ultraagan" help to get rid of weeds by 90%. They are quickly absorbed by plants, besides they can be used for dew, and in the soil they decompose in a short time. It is especially effective to use herbicides in the period of active growth of wheat grass. The optimal time is the period after harvesting, when the shoots of the weed grow again and reach 15-20 cm in height. But remember that herbicides should be used carefully, so as not to damage cultural plants.

I would like to note that the wheatgrass whose photo is presented in the article is endowed with healing properties. In folk medicine, it was used as a blood cleanser for diseases of the urinary and respiratory tract. Its rhizomes contain essential oil, triticin polysaccharide, organic acids, vitamin C, saponins and carotene. A confirmation of the medicinal properties of this weed are our cats and dogs. Of all the plants, they choose the wheat grass to improve their health.
