The indigenous inhabitants of the Ural capital often call this place slightly familiar - "Plotinka". The name comes from a dam that blocks the Iset River and forms the City Pond. The historical square, the total area of which exceeds 8 hectares, stretches along both banks of the Iset. The territory is planned symmetrically to the museum and memorial zones. On the right bank, in the area of the retaining wall, there is a kind of "Garden of stones". This is a permanent exhibition of the Ural minerals. The exposition under the open sky allows to get acquainted with the natural and geological riches of the Urals. Monolithic blocks of granite, dolomite and marble are brought to the historical square from different places of the Ural region. And on the left bank of the Iset is a museum zone. It is based on the buildings and structures that remained from the old Yekaterinburg. Here is a technique that worked at the Ural enterprises in the nineteenth century. Interesting was the fate of the surviving buildings of an old metallurgical plant - the same one from which Yekaterinburg began. Now here are located the Museum of Fine Arts and Part. Exposition of the Museum of Local Lore. And from the old water tower turned out to be quite an interesting museum of forging skill, the level of which local craftsmen were always famous for. Among other things, the Historic Square is a traditional venue for citywide events, folk festivals and celebrations. They pass on both banks of the Iset.
