Oscar Prize: presentation ceremony. Oscar winners

About the famous "Oscar" Award they know in all corners of the world. There is, probably, a figure of the cinema art that would not dream of a treasured gilded statuette. Such dreams are justified, because the Hollywood Award was originally conceived as the highest evaluation of the work, the limit of the dreams of any filmmaker, the highest award and praise for the director and actor. Although the procedure for determining winners is still being questioned by many mass media and film critics, the Oscar award ceremony remains the most prestigious and expected not only in the cinema world, but also beyond the blue screen. What is the history of the institution of the award? And what films, as well as persons, received Grand Prix in the last 15 years?

Oscar Award: the history of the institution

"Oscar" is a prize given out on behalf of the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences in the USA. It is considered one of the most authoritative and ancient, because the ceremony is more than 80 years old.

And it all began in 1926, when the head of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer seriously thought about how to unite the American filmmakers in one kind of organization. Now it's hard to say whether he really paid attention to the development of American cinema or simply tried to expand his sphere of influence, but the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences was created, and Luis B. Mayer headed the committee that selected members for the organization. Well, which academy will cost without a nominal award?

This was how the "Merit Awards" were developed - statuettes-knights, reigned in a pensive posture on a film. The "Oscar" award, more precisely a figurine, is cast from an alloy of tin and copper, and then covered with gold.

Voting for the winners in the categories was conducted in two stages:

  1. At first, members of the Academy selected five nominees each in their own sphere - producers in the production sphere, actors in acting, etc.
  2. The main council of the Academy, formed from representatives of 5 professional departments (directors, actors, screenwriters, producers and technicians), chose the final winners in all nominations by voting.

The procedure for determining laureates has not changed over time, only nominations have become 24, and professional guilds that carry out voting - 15.

How does the ceremony take place?

The awarding of the Oscar in 1929, the first in history, was modest enough: at the Roosevelt Hotel (Los Angeles) in the form of a banquet for 270 people. But modern ceremonies differ in unprecedented pomposity and scope.

Everything begins with the procession of invited guests on the red carpet to the building where the presentation will take place. Stars in dazzling evening toilets go past crowds of jubilant fans and flashes of cameras, and are housed in a huge hall, which is designed for several thousand spectators.

Leaders of the ceremony vary from year to year - they are famous comedians, popular actors or TV hosts.

For the scoring of the names of applicants in each nomination are invited famous people - here the list is also great: producers, directors, actors and actresses, TV hosts, etc. Periodically, musical and choreographic performances are performed on stage. Well, and, of course, the winners take the answer, in which they thank their relatives, friends, etc.

Criticism of the ceremony

Recently, the impartiality of the judgments of members of the jury of the American Academy of Cinematography is increasingly being questioned. Critics are puzzled, because the Oscar-winning films and their quality are getting worse every year, tapes with an art-house bias that previously never collected such huge amounts at the box office, after becoming Oscar winners, increased the revenue from the shows Order of 12 million. $.

But, despite all the gossip and guesswork, the Oscar ceremony does not give up its positions and still remains an interesting and important event in the world of motion picture art.
