Organic Personality Disorder: Treat or Adjust?

The peculiarity of personality disorders is that they are not the result of transferred diseases, but are acquired in complex conflicts of the individual and society.

An exception is an organic personality disorder. This name unites the painful changes in character and behavior that have arisen under the influence of brain damage. Such damage can occur from the external environment - for example, as a result of head injuries, as well as from the inside - due to illnesses. At the same time, one can not say that organic personality disorder develops because of trauma or disease. The leading role in the origin of this disorder is played by the experience of unhealthy relationships with society, the family, internal conflicts of the subject associated with this disharmony.

Organic personality disorder attracts attention at the stage of primary signs, which lasts six months or more. The patient becomes lethargic, indifferent to what is happening in the external world. Slow down thinking, speech, emotional reactions. Sometimes there are also opposite feelings: a state of prolonged euphoria (an unreasonable delight without connection with real events, while the patient does not consider himself to be happy). In the early stages of the disease, memory can remain unaffected. However, in a later period, violations are likely.

The advanced stage of the disease is characterized by complete indifference of the person to the surrounding world. At the same time, even the most innocuous treatment of a patient can lead to an extremely strong aggression on his part. He does not control his feelings. There is no understanding that in relation to the surrounding people he is behaving incorrectly. In response to criticism, it becomes suspicious and irritable. Can hate the critic, harbor insult to the end of life. It is expressed primitively and monotonously, jokes flatly, and does not understand other people's jokes at all.

Organic personality disorder is attempted to be treated in a comprehensive manner. Drug therapy is used: nootropics, antidepressants and neuroleptics, which can only be prescribed by a doctor. At the same time, it requires the help of a psychologist, psychotherapist and social worker who will support the patient's family and, of course, to himself. If necessary, they will limit his participation in public life (if painful behavior will harm others and the patient himself).

However, even in the presence of complex effects, it is impossible to talk about cure for this ailment. In the most successful cases, it can be a correction, which in different periods of the patient's life is better or worse.

The situation is different with the treatment of two other personality disorders: anancastic and bipolar disorder.

Anankastnoe personality disorder is a world of obsessive thoughts, constant doubts of the patient in the correctness of their actions, an almost superstitious worship of the norms of society and fanatic observance of them, the execution of obsessive actions that a person can not stop. One of the signs of this disorder is the inability of the subject to think in silence. Obtrusive thoughts, he must always say.

Anankastnoe disorder is amenable to psychotherapy in cases when the patient recognizes himself as a patient. In this case, drug therapy is also prescribed. The combined treatment gives favorable results: it is possible to improve for a long time.

If anankast considers himself healthy, and all around - abnormal, then the treatment will almost certainly not effect.

Bipolar personality disorder is a serious and dangerous mental illness. Being manifested in the form of painful changes from a depressed state (depression) to overexcitation with loss of control over oneself (mania), this frustration can take a person's life.

In a state of depression, many patients are disgusted with their existence and the desire for death. To any person who at least hinted at the desire to commit suicide, it is necessary to treat with all seriousness. Suicidal thoughts in most cases result in an attempted suicide or a fully committed suicide. In the event that one of the relatives, acquaintances, friends, co-workers expressing thoughts on suicide is known, it is necessary to arrange for him a meeting with a psychiatrist. The doctors know the technique of appointing and holding such meetings. Suicide can be prevented, and depression can be cured.

In states of mania, patients with bipolar disorder can commit acts that will break their lives. For example, manic patients spend all their (or someone else's!) Financial status for minor purposes, take huge loans that they obviously will not be able to return, display sexual intemperance with subsequent scandalous echoes in the family and society, easily fall under the influence of violators of the law.

Today's level of psychiatry makes it possible to actively treat bipolar disorder. With a professional approach to treatment, mainly - medicamentous - it is possible to achieve long-term remissions (recovery states) throughout the life of the patient.

Among the disorders considered personality is practically not treated, but only an organic disorder is corrected. Treatment of an ankastric disorder can produce positive results. Bipolar disorder, despite the greatest severity of the disease and the need for lifelong monitoring by the doctor, can be considered curable.
