Toothbrush: Is Electric Better Conventional?

The truth is that the look of the toothbrush is not important. This is all a matter of taste and good hygiene. Whether it's a conventional or electric toothbrush, we should use dental floss, mouthwash and do not miss dental visits every six months. And what type of brush seems more attractive to us, depends on our personality, our teeth and our attitude to modern technology.

An electric toothbrush appeared in the USA in the 60s of the last century. Today there are dozens of different brands of electric brushes with countless variations of auxiliary properties, with batteries, with a compact design.

An electric toothbrush with a frequency of 3000 to 7000 movements per minute is analogous to the movements that the hands usually make. Hairs these brushes, either rotating, or moving back and forth are able to remove plaque. A toothbrush with a frequency of 30,000 to 40,000 vibrations per minute, the speed of the movements of the hairs approaches the speed of sound.

Whatever the toothbrushes were, their ultimate goal is to remove plaque and maintain the cleanliness and health of your teeth and gums. To get a better idea of how we brush our teeth with an ordinary brush, we can take the equivalent of about 300 movements per minute - this is if we brush our teeth correctly. With the recommended two minutes of cleaning, we do about 600 motions, which is much less than what you get from an electric brush.

Advantages of electric toothbrushes
Several studies have shown that electric toothbrushes remove plaque more effectively. But this does not mean that if we use the usual brush properly, we can not be as effective. Electric toothbrushes are easier to use, especially for people who have problems with free movement of the hand (for example, in case of arthritis), because they do not require any control effort. The fact that you do not have to do a "job" for cleaning, encourages us to brush our teeth more regularly.

The only relative disadvantage of electric toothbrushes is their price. Regardless of which toothbrush you choose, the right technique for cleaning your teeth is of paramount importance for achieving optimal results. You should brush your teeth at least twice a day, for at least two minutes, every morning and every evening.

Quality is as important as quantity, when it comes to cleaning. It is better to direct the toothbrush approximately at an angle of 45 degrees from the gum line and teeth. It is preferable to use a brush with soft bristles and brush your teeth with gentle movements. We must be careful not to rub too long or too much. We need to make sure that we cleaned every tooth and every crack.
