Deep caries

Everyone at least once was in the chair of a dentist. And one of the most common causes of such visits is deep caries. To spread this disease lead to improper nutrition, stress, environmental situation. If you have found caries, you should start treating it as soon as possible. Only this way you can prevent the appearance of periodontitis and pulpitis.

What is caries?

Deep caries is the last stage of the pathological process, which takes place in the most severe form. Such caries affects the deepest layers of dentin and destroys the tooth surface. This species can be either primary, that is, it can be transformed from superficial and middle caries, or secondary (develop under seals due to defects in them).

Symptoms of deep caries

During the examination with the doctor, when the bottom of the carious tooth is probed, pain appears. Also, tenderness is noted when food, foreign bodies enter the hole. The pain is sharp, gradually fading, but not disappearing until the moment when foreign bodies are removed.

Often the pain syndrome appears due to thermal, chemical and other irritants.

Deep caries leads to significant tooth decay. And the defect can be closed by the remaining tooth tissues, which hang over the edges of the enamel. Upon inspection, only a small hole is noticed at once, while underneath it there is a huge carious cavity.

This caries separates the teeth from the pulp with a thin layer of dentine, which often has a different color and softness.

Types of caries

Deep sharp caries. It manifests itself in the form of a short-lived pain reaction to hot, cold and mechanical stimuli. Pain can remain even after its cause has been eliminated.

This form of caries is characterized by the appearance of a deep carious cavity with a narrow entrance and a wide base. On the walls of the cavity, dentin is accumulated, which is removed in the form of strata.

Chronic deep caries. It is accompanied by short-term pain with mechanical and temperature stimuli. With this caries there is a deep carious cavity with wide-open and pigmented walls. And only at the very bottom is concentrated softened dentin.

How to stop tooth decay?

Treatment of deep caries begins with anesthesia. The cavity, affected by it, is cleaned of dentin, which is in a soft state, after which it is sealed. When the disease is started and has already touched the nerve, the tooth is depulled.

In the treatment of deep caries, in addition to the material from which the seals are made, use all sorts of antiseptics, calcium-containing gaskets and fluorine-containing sealants for insulation.

If the timely start of qualified treatment, even with severe disruption, you can save the tooth and eventually regain all its functions. When treatment begins too late, the tooth has to be extirpated.

Complications in treatment

Even after you seem to have cured caries, there may be some complications. For example, a few days after your visit to the dentist, you felt the growing pain. This indicates that an infected pulp appeared in the tooth, and inflammation began - pulpitis. In this case, the tooth should be treated as soon as possible: remove the already infected pulp and seal the canals.

Usually, after putting the seal, there is a time interval in which one can not eat. The time itself depends on the material that was put on the seal, and varies from a couple of minutes to several hours. Do you want to save the seal for a long time? Then do not forget about regular oral hygiene, professional including.
