On the Spassky Theater: history, repertoire, reviews

In the center of the city of Kirov there is a Theater of Youth on Spassky. This theater exists from the first half of the 20th century. In his repertoire today, the productions are not only for children, but also for adults.

About the theater

In 1935 the Youth Theater was created on Spassky. The theater was then a group of creative young people. The first performance of the new troupe was played in June 1936. It was a play by V. Lyubimova "Sergej Sagittarius". The main director and art director of the theater was M. S. Shokhov. In the same year 1936, the Theater of Young People acquired its own building, which still lives there. The room was repeatedly renovated. The dressing rooms, stage, backstage section, auditorium, administrative rooms, foyer, workshops were reconstructed. The last reconstruction took place in 1985-1986.

In the theater at all times, there were wonderful actors, directors, artists, talented and courageous people who were not afraid of any experiments.

In 1937 the Youth Theater was named after the writer N. Ostrovsky. During the war the theater toured the Kirov region. In the 90s, the Ostrovsky Youth Theater was renamed the Theater on Spassky.

Since 2004 the director is Vladimir Gribanov.

The project "Migration" was created on the basis of the theater. This is a group of dancers, thanks to which choreographic performances appeared in the repertoire of the theater.

Premieres of the 2015-2016 season

In this season several new performances were prepared for spectators by the Theater of Young Spectators on Spassky. The theater presented three premieres at once.

The first one is called "Dream me." This performance is based on the novel by M. Roshchin "Echelon". The setting is intended for spectators not younger than 12 years. The play "Dream me" - about the Great Patriotic War. He tells that the Victory was forged not only by those who with weapons in their hands defended our Motherland on the fronts. A significant contribution to this common cause was made by those who provided combatants with a reliable rear. They believed in the Victory, they truly waited, did not sleep nights, prayed and asked their dear people on the battlefield: "Please sleep on me! .."

The second premiere is a play by W. Shakespeare - "Two Veronets". This is one of the early comedies of the great playwright, who in his lifetime has never been published. "Two Veronets" is the story of two lovers who formed a love polygon. In the play there is everything - humor, adventure, flight, witches, betrayals and, of course, according to the laws of the comedy genre - del arte - a happy ending. The setting is intended for spectators not younger than 16 years.

The third premiere of this season is the play "Munchausen" based on works by R.E. Raspe. Everyone knows this literary character. He is famous for telling tales about his exploits. Munchhausen is a liar, an artist, an improviser and an inventor. The performance is recommended for viewers not younger than 18 years old.
