Of these unusual materials, automotive seats will soon be manufactured
Manufacturers of cars, perhaps, will soon completely give up leather seats. Instead, the seat will be made of innovative materials - silk, wood and even vinyl, made from processed pineapple leaves!
Searches for options
Typically, the upholstery options include a skin, a skin substitute or a practical dense fabric. If the car is made long enough, you can also see velor upholstery. However, in the modern world the situation is changing rapidly. Manufacturers are beginning to look for materials that will be lighter, denser and cheaper than genuine leather. The invention of such materials would significantly expand the number of ways to decorate an interior. Until 1938, only natural materials were used. The situation changed with the invention of nylon - this was the first synthetic kind of fiber.
Artificial Leather
Vinyl and other variants of artificial leather seem to many materials for budget machines. Such material in the cold is cool, and in the heat to it the skin is stuck, in addition, all this is accompanied by an unpleasant smell. Nevertheless, interest in skin substitutes is growing, and manufacturers are paying attention to it.
Carbon fiber
Carbon fiber is the favorite material of the designers of supercars. Thanks to a combination of minimal weight and high strength, it is ideal for decorating salons. For example, they are often used by the creators of Lamborghini. In 2012 they even released one of their roadsters with a salon completely covered with carbon cloth. Like the structural parts of such material, the elements of carbon fabric are characterized by minimal weight, strength and - thanks to the level of the brand - an impressive price.
Artificial chamois of pineapple
Every year in the world, twenty-five million tons of pineapples are grown. It turns out that their leaves, which could just be thrown away, are suitable for the production of a dense flexible fabric that can easily be made into suede much easier and cheaper than natural. At the moment, the leaves imported from the Philippines are used - there they are ground into fibers and biomass in a special machine. Biomass is formed into strata by means of a special process, after which a layer of water-repellent impregnation is applied. Biomass residues can be used as a fertilizer. From the fabric you can make shoes, jackets, bags and, of course, upholstery.
Silk upholstery
Leather does not make an impression of luxury because it is made up of any car. Silk is the material that still gives a sense of sophistication. For example, Maserati offers seats with a trim made of silk. Despite its delicate appearance, such silk is quite durable. Historically, it has been used to produce a variety of items from clothing to parachutes, in addition, it is comfortable to use in very different weather. Silk seats are functional and look chic at the same time.
Woolen fabric
Wool, which is made of hair and animal fur, does not seem such an innovative material. Nevertheless, designers rethought the fabric for modern use. The Swiss manufacturer of textile Climatex combines woolen fibers with synthetic fibers in a special way - at the end of their service life they can be divided and recycled. Wool allows you to comfortably control the temperature, and synthetic fiber guarantees endurance. Modern materials allow synthetics to have almost any quality, which makes it possible to make seats with a stable color and pleasant texture. Technology has already borrowed and American manufacturers are planning to widely use such a fabric in the industry. Sometimes inspiration for manufacturers is hidden in familiar materials that simply require conversion. You just need to assess how rational the modern use of a particular raw material is, to imagine whether such a method is acceptable in the future and to make the necessary adjustments - in this case, you get a functional fabric that is ideal for replacing the habitual natural leather.
