Nanotechnology in construction

Today nanotechnology in construction looks impressive enough: construction materials with rare characteristics, new varieties of reinforcing steels, unique films, wear-resistant coatings and flexible self-cleaning glass. All this only proves that scientific developments and the use of nanotechnology in modern life are of great importance. At the national level, programs for their development in thirty-five countries of the world have already been adopted.

Nanotechnology in construction: airgel

The most unusual creation of man is recognized as an airgel (frozen smoke or solid air), which is included in the Guinness Book of Records.

This material, possessing high-tech properties, was synthesized at the beginning of the twentieth century, but he found application only in our days. It is a gel, the liquid phase of which is replaced by a gaseous one. Airgel resembles externally styrofoam or hard foam. Having an amazingly low density, it has many important properties, such as hardness, heat resistance, transparency, and others.

Airgel can withstand the load of thousands of times its weight. Materials on its basis are widely used for thermal insulation of equipment and in various areas of construction.

Such heat insulators have a wide temperature regime, which varies from -270 to +385 degrees.

Airgel is absolutely safe material for the environment and for humans, as well as durable in operation. The recycling of this material is much more convenient and simpler, since its volume is much smaller than that of traditional materials used in construction.

Nanotechnology in construction: glutinous Teflon fabric

The newest multifunctional product of a wide range of action is a fabric made of heavy-duty fiberglass with a non-stick Teflon layer, which is impregnated on the back with glue.

In construction, adhesive Teflon fabric is used recently, but already quite actively. This fabric is resistant to weathering and aging, spots of varying complexity are easily removed from its surface. It is quite resistant to the chemical effects of alkalis, acids and organic compounds, and its perfectly smooth surface remains absolutely clean for five years. In addition, Teflon fabric has excellent insulation characteristics.

Its service life is at least 25 years, it does not harm the environment at all, since it does not contain toxic additives. But the most important advantage of such a fabric as a building material is its fire safety.

Glutinous Teflon fabric is used today in almost all spheres of industry, for example, in aviation, in the production of paper, in printing technology, in tailoring, in medicine, in machine building and in construction.

Nanotechnology in construction: plastic foil

Plastic foil is unique by several criteria. The first positive quality is its economy. Unlike glass, this foil has a better throughput of ultraviolet rays and has perfect insulation values under different temperature conditions.

This foil does not need special care, since during rain, all dirt is washed off without a trace.

An important quality of this polymer is that it is not traumatic. The weight of the foil is about one percent of the weight of the glass, which is necessary for glazing of the same area of the room.

In the last ten years, the use of nanotechnologies and materials based on them has become in demand and habitual in everyday life.
