Munchkin may well claim to be the most unusual cat in the world. Its distinctive feature, due to which it can not be confused with any other breed, is unusually short paws. Often Munchkin is called a cat-dachshund, and this comparison, perhaps, most accurately describes his appearance. Some people will frighten off this appearance, some are completely ready to write munchkin as invalids because of the peculiarities of the structure of his body. However, only those who have never seen him live so argue. In fact, these cats with short paws for activity and playfulness will give odds to any ordinary cat, and they move hardly more slowly than their long-legged brethren. As an official breed they were first introduced in 1991, and since then their victorious procession around the world began. Munchkins have an amazing ability to conquer people's hearts. Perhaps it is a merit of their unusual kind, and maybe very friendly character, high intelligence and extraordinary playfulness. Yes, you were very mistaken if you thought that because of its unusual structure, cats with short paws are somehow constrained in the possibilities of active games. This is absolutely not so! They can all - run after the ball, catch flies, easily climb up to the uppermost shelves and much, much more.

Not all cats of this breed have short paws. In the litter, munchkins are born as kittens with short paws, and with paws of usual length. And both types are actively used in further breeding. A pair of parents can consist of either two standard munchkins, or one standard and one long-length. And although non-standard individuals do not carry the short paw genes within themselves, nevertheless, their participation in breeding is necessary, since they transmit to their descendants the desired pedigree type (the correct structure of the head, body or interesting color). In addition, the litter of kittens, in which one of the parents is long-legged, is usually more numerous.

In Russia, cats with short paws appeared not so long ago - in 2001, but already got many fans, both among professionals - felinologists, and among ordinary cat lovers. And today it is rare what a major exhibition to do without the Munchkins. Although of course, most people start these unusual cats not for exhibitions, but for the soul, and their pets will never know the "star disease" of the winners of rings, but will simply please owners with their communication, leprosy and games.
