Moscow Metro Construction Plan: Goals and Prospects

The Moscow Metro successfully transports passengers almost eighty years. Its first line was opened in the distant 1935. The plan for the construction of the metro in Moscow at that time was not worked out for such a long perspective and was formed gradually, as new areas were built and the historic part of the city was reconstructed.

Transport system of the capital

The metropolitan is the most important element of the entire transport infrastructure of Moscow. The value only increases as the megacity develops. With the congestion of all major land lines during peak hours, the metro operates without traffic jams and interruptions. For the majority of the population this is the only reliable way to get to the desired point of the city without delay. Without a regularly working subway, life in Moscow will be paralyzed. There is no doubt that the existing subway scheme should be developed and improved. But it is necessary to draw conclusions from the mistakes and mistakes made in the previous time.

The main disadvantages of the existing system

Time mercilessly revealed and many of the imperfections of the once accepted concept of the subway system. The plan for the construction of the metro in Moscow, tied to the Ring Line, was progressive and relevant for the postwar period. But such a decision became an absolute brake on development in modern conditions. The existing metro scheme often forces passengers to reach the desired station through a transfer on the Ring Line. And this contradicts the elementary principles of logistics. Therefore, the plan for the construction of a metro in Moscow for the near and more distant future should be based on principles that can overcome the shortcomings of the system that has been formed.

Directions for further development

The further plan for the construction of the metro in Moscow implies an integrated approach to overcoming today's problems. There will be several directions for further development. They also imply the appearance on the map of new and continuation of already existing lines. Increasingly, metro lines will extend beyond the Ring Road to the area. Undoubted innovation is the plan for the construction of a light metro. It will pass along the strip of alienation of existing railway lines and ensure the communication of large Moscow suburbs with the center of the capital.

The third transfer circuit

At the present time specific tasks on construction for the period up to 2020 have been defined and adopted. One of the most important projects, which includes the plan for the construction of the Moscow Metro, is the creation of a third interchange circuit. This project involves the construction of four chord lines running through the periphery of the capital. The scheme of movement along these lines will have a route principle. After the contour is closed, one of the routes is supposed to be made circular. Thus, in the Moscow metro, the second Ring Line may appear. But this is in the distant future. Currently, the construction of the first chord site is underway. Opening it is tentatively planned in the fourth quarter of 2015. The starting site will pass between the stations "Business Center" and "Lower Maslivka". It will include six new stations.

Easy underground

In the Moscow suburbs, there are a number of fairly large cities. First of all, they are Khimki, Podolsk, Dolgoprudny, Mytischi and Reutov. They live a lot of people who work in the capital. They are forced daily to travel a distance to their workplace and return back. The construction of metro lines in these cities would require a very large investment, if you build a metro in the usual format. Therefore, in order to provide transport communication with these cities, a version of the so-called "light metro" was adopted. In fact, it is closer to the usual train. But its cars are refitted according to metro standards and the departure interval is significantly reduced. Trains of the light metro are moving along existing railway tracks or, if not possible, along parallel lines. So, for example, trains from Khimki will arrive at the Leningrad station. The light metro allows, with rather modest investments, to provide the Moscow suburbs with transport communications. The drawbacks of this project include the fact that its lines will not be integrated into the existing scheme of the Moscow Metro. At the Leningrad station passengers will have to transfer to the "Komsomolskaya" - ring or radial. And for this you will have to go through the turnstile for the second time.

Development of the existing network

In addition to fundamentally new approaches, the plan for the construction of the metro until 2020 implies the further development and improvement of the already formed scheme of the Moscow Metro. We should not forget about the expansion of Moscow's borders in the south-west direction. In the former territory of the region, which in July 2012 became part of the city of Moscow, three metro lines will be built. First of all, we are talking about the continuation of the Sokolniki and Kalinin-Solntsevskaya lines. The new line of the light subway will run parallel to the Kaluga highway in the direction towards Kommunarka. In addition, new stations of the Moscow Metro will appear in many other areas already existing. According to the approved plans, until 2020 in the Moscow Metro 160 kilometers of new lines and 79 stations will appear. By the end of 2014, the launch site on the Lublin-Dmitrovskaya line from the "Maryina Roshcha" to the "Seligerskaya" line should be commissioned. The oldest Sokolnicheskaya line will receive a continuation from "South-West" to "Salaryevo". Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya line will reach the station "Kotelniki". In addition, it will be unscrambled in the old times station "Spartacus." In 2017, the commissioning of the Solntsevo line from Park of Victory to Ramenki station is scheduled. And in 2019 it will be possible to drive along the Kalininskaya line from the station "Tretyakovskaya" to the station "Business center". The two existing lines are now united into one Kalinin-Solntsevo.
