"Mexicor" and "Mexidol" - what's the difference? Description of products, instructions for use

Quite often we come across preparations with different names, but with almost identical properties. The question arises: "And besides the name, are there any differences between them? Or maybe it's just that different manufacturers decided to give such names to absolutely identical medicines?" Under this definition the preparations "Mexicor" and "Mexidol" perfectly suit. What is the difference? Where are the medicines manufactured? All this we will try to consider in our article.

Form release of drugs

Any drug is almost always available in various forms, so that patients can easily find a suitable one for themselves.

And between the drugs "Mexicor" and "Mexidol" what's the difference? The form of release of these medicines has some differences.

The medicine "Mexicor" is available in two forms: capsules and solution for internal administration. But "Mexidol" has a tablet form and also a solution for intravenous and intramuscular injections. It's not entirely true when capsules are called pills. It should be noted that in both preparations, solutions for injections are packed in ampoules with a volume of 2 milliliters, although the medicine "Mexidol" can be in ampoules of 5 ml.

Tablets "Mexidol" manufacturers are packed in packs of PVC or aluminum foil for 10 pieces. If the drug is produced for medical institutions, the pills are placed in a plastic jar of 450 or 900 pieces. Capsules "Mexicor" also fit into 10 pieces in contour packs. It is very convenient to use.

And still, if we talk about the preparations of "Mexicor" and "Mexidol", what is the difference between such medicines? In the article, we will try to gradually consider all the parameters.

Is there a difference in the composition of the drugs?

To answer this question, you need to carefully study the list of components included in both drugs.

Take the capsule Mexicor. They contain the main active substance ethylmethylhydroxypyridine succinate in an amount of 0.1 mg. Additional components are also available:

  • succinic acid;
  • milk sugar;
  • potato starch;
  • MCC;
  • Magnesium stearate;
  • Low molecular weight PVP.

If we consider the solution of this drug, then we can say that the basic substance is the same, only in the amount of 100 mg, and the additional components are:

  • Trilon B ;
  • Sterile water.

Let us now turn to another drug - Mexidol. Tablets as the main substance contain all the same ethyl methyl mercaptopyridine succinate in an amount of 125 mg, and additional substances are:

  • Lactose monohydrate;
  • Carmelose sodium;
  • Magnesium stearate.

You can also notice that each tablet on top has a shell consisting of macrogol polyethylene glycol, polyvinyl alcohol, talc and titanium dioxide.

The solution for injection contains in its composition the same active substance in the amount of 50 mg per 1 ml of the preparation, and the additional components are:

  • Sodium metabisulfite;
  • water for injections.

How else can we compare Mexicor and Mexidol? What is the difference between these apparently similar compounds? The first drug contains slightly less of the main active substance, but this can be noted if you compare tablets and capsules. There are practically no differences in solutions for injection, except in additional components. The same can be said about tablets with capsules.

The specialist can confirm that in the drug, any of its components can provoke an unexpected reaction, whether it is not the basic substance.

Effects on the body

How do these drugs affect the human body? Both drugs include the same active ingredient, so it's difficult to compare Mexicor and Mexidol. What is the difference? Special instructions in the manual make it clear that both drugs have the following abilities:

  • Strong antioxidant activity, as there is inhibition of processes, resulting in the formation of free radicals.
  • Positive effect on the functional state of the heart muscle.
  • The pronounced neuroprotective effect, which is expressed in reducing the risk of disturbance of blood flow in the vessels of the brain, as well as in the stabilization of brain metabolic processes.
  • The anxiolytic effect is manifested in the reduction of anxiety and fear.
  • They have a positive impact on learning and memory processes.
  • The antitoxic effect of the drugs explains their active use to eliminate neurologic and neurotoxic manifestations after alcohol poisoning.
  • The interaction of drugs with tranquilizers, antidepressants and hypnotics contributes to the impact of the latter.
  • Reduction of pathological changes in parts of the brain.

How do you know if you use Mexicor and Mexidol for the first time, what's the difference? The description indicates that both drugs have almost the same pharmacological effect on the body.

Diagram of treatment and dosage of the preparation "Mexicor"

If the "Mexicor" is prescribed, then usually the initial dose is 1 caps. three times a day. If the medicine is well tolerated by the patient, the dosage can be increased. It should be noted that a single dose can not be more than 200 mg, and a day - no more than 800 mg.

In the presence of encephalopathy, the drug is taken 1 capsule several times a day during the entire course of therapy. If there are problems with cerebral circulation, then Mexicor should be taken for a long time. Closer to the end of treatment, the dosage can be gradually reduced.

If an acute myocardial infarction is diagnosed, the drug is administered to the patient in the form of injections for two weeks. In the first few days, the drug is administered intravenously, and then switched to intramuscular use. Prior to the appointment of a dosage, a calculation is made taking into account the patient's body weight. Do not forget that the dosage and duration of treatment should be prescribed only by a doctor.

Treatment scheme for "Mexidol"

Let's consider the scheme of therapy at use of a preparation in the form of a solution for injections:

  • With violations of cerebral circulation, the drug is administered by a drop method several times a day for two weeks. The dose can vary from 200 to 500 mg. Then, if the treatment should be continued, switch to intramuscular injection.
  • To eliminate the consequences of craniocerebral trauma, the drug is administered in the same dosage for two weeks. It should be noted that a specific dose is selected taking into account the individual characteristics of the patient and the severity of his condition.
  • If the drug is prescribed as a prophylactic for encephalopathy, the dose can be 400 to 500 mg twice daily intramuscularly.
  • For the treatment of cognitive disorders in the elderly, it is sufficient to use 0.1-0.3 g for 2-4 weeks.
  • In acute form of myocardial infarction, "Mexidol" is administered intramuscularly or intravenously for 14 days, but therapy is combined with the intake of other medications. Interaction of drugs in this case gives a greater effect.
  • Glaucoma of varying severity is treated by administering within a period of 14 days the drug in an amount of 100-300 mg intramuscularly. The number of injections per day can vary from 1 to 3.
  • In the presence of alcohol intoxication Mexidol will give a positive effect when administered intramuscularly in an amount of 200 to 500 mg. Everything depends on the state. Duration of admission is usually not more than 7 days.
  • Purulent inflammatory processes in the abdominal cavity require medication before and after the operation.

Scheme for taking Mexidol tablets:

In the treatment of tablets, the dosage usually varies from 1 to 2 tablets three times a day. In a day it is inadmissible to take more than 6 tablets.

The length of the course of therapy depends on the severity of the patient's condition, disease and the body's response to the drug.

It should be noted that it is not recommended to abruptly cancel the drug, it is better to reduce the dosage gradually.

These are the treatment regimens for Mexicor and Mexidol. What is the difference? Doses of drugs are approximately the same, so it is difficult to identify any significant differences.

Combination of drugs with other drugs

If we consider how Mexidol combines with other medicines, we can note the following:

  • Strengthens the effect on the body of antidepressants, neuroleptics, anticonvulsants, tranquilizers.
  • Reduces the appearance of toxic effects after the introduction of ethanol into the body.
  • It is perfectly combined with almost all medicines that are used to eliminate somatic disorders.

If we study the interaction of Mexicor with other drugs, then we can say practically the same. What is the difference between Mexicor and Mexidol medicines? What is the difference? The composition and properties of such drugs are almost identical, that is, both drugs enhance the effect of anticonvulsant, neuroleptic and other agents, and also neutralize the effects of alcohol.

Similar drugs

Quite often patients, instead of following the doctor's recommendations, begin to look for cheaper substitutes for such drugs as Mexicor and Mexidol? What is the difference? Analogues have both, so let's look at them.

For Mexidol, these are:

  • "Hypoxenum" in tablets and capsules.
  • "Mexican B6" in tablets.
  • Homeopathic drops "Memorial".
  • Tablets "Cereburnorm."
  • "Glycine".
  • Injections of "Vitagamma".
  • Solution for injections "Cortexin".
  • Injections "Trigamma" and "Emoxibel" and many others.

Since both drugs have the same active substance, in the list of analogues of "Mexidol" you can find "Mexicor".

If you consider Mexicor separately, then analogies for it can be:

  • "Medomexi".
  • "The Mexican".
  • Mexipridol.

It is not necessary without consulting a doctor to choose an analogue instead of the prescribed drug, because you can get the opposite effect.

Feedback on treatment

So, we reviewed the preparations of "Mexicor" and "Mexidol". What is the difference? Reviews of doctors and patients clearly demonstrate the differences between these drugs.

If we talk about the medicine "Mexidol", then most doctors are sure that this is one of the best drugs that is produced by Russian producers. Confirmed its effectiveness in the violations of cerebral circulation, noted the positive changes in the treatment of VSD and the elimination of the consequences of craniocerebral trauma. Despite the fact that children under 18 years of age usually do not prescribe the drug, it is this tool that allows you to quickly normalize the baby's health after traumatic brain injury, and also to stabilize the condition of babies born with signs of hypoxia. Of course, you can also meet negative feedback. They, as a rule, concern injections, after which some patients noted increased drowsiness, nausea and headache.

It is worth noting that the positive feedback about "Mexico" is much less. Even doctors note that the drug does not give the desired positive result. What then is there to talk about patients? Some medics have doubts about the decay products of the drug, so they advise not to hope for a positive outcome of therapy.

After such medicines as "Mexicor" and "Mexidol" were considered, the difference between them became more obvious. Of course, they have much in common, and this is not only an active substance. But all the same before you give preference to one of them, it is worth consulting with a doctor to make the result of the treatment happy, and not bring new health problems.
