LLC "Savelovsky Machine Building Plant" is one of the largest enterprises of Russian machine-tool construction. The joint-stock company specializes in the production of high-tech machine tools, equipment for the nuclear, aerospace industry. It is located in a city like Kimry, in the Tver region.

Historical reference

Savelovsky Machine-Building Plant (SMZ) is a city-forming enterprise of the city of Kimry. He started his career in 1915, when railway workshops were opened, where a narrow-gauge rolling stock was repaired.

After the revolution, the plant was nationalized. In 1930, equipment for the production of machine tools was delivered from Moscow. Seven years later, the production of seaplane scouts for the KOR-2 fleet was set up in the workshops.

With the outbreak of war, the power of the machine-tool plant is being evacuated to Omsk, where a number of enterprises have been created on their basis. But the shop was not empty for long. On the vacated squares, military equipment was repaired. In 1943, in Kimry, closer to the front, an instrument factory was put out of Chelyabinsk to produce machines for the production of aircraft.

Post-war development

In 1946-48, the Savelovsky Machine Building Plant began manufacturing precision precision turning machines and technological special equipment for the aircraft industry. In connection with the development of new types of aircraft - strategic bombers, jet fighters, passenger airliners - the production of the enterprise was very much in demand. Power sometimes was not enough. Thanks to the plant employees and the NIAT designers working with them in cooperation, it became possible to manufacture complex parts and assemblies for high-tech aircraft such as Tu-144, Il-62 and others.

Specialists of the Savelovsky Machine-Building Plant were among the first in the Soviet Union to master the manufacture and setup of CNC machine tools, including machining centers. By the beginning of 1980 their annual output reached 2500 units. In Soviet times, the vast majority of aviation plants were equipped with SMZ equipment.

Time for a change

With the collapse of the USSR, the situation at the enterprise deteriorated. The emerging stagnation in the industry led to massive non-payments and a significant drop in demand. However, the plant managed to stay afloat. In 1993 the enterprise was corporatized.

In 1997, despite the difficulties of entering the market, SMZ LLC mastered the production of milling high-performance machining centers. In parallel, the design of CNC lathes has improved. Today, the accuracy of processing complex parts, performed on the equipment of the Savelovsky plant, corresponds to the world level.

On the verge of bankruptcy

In 2004, SMZ came under the influence of the Borodino GC, engaged in a variety of projects - from real estate rental to alcohol production. The debts accumulated by other divisions of the Borodino group fell on the shoulders of the plant. The volume of production in 2011 amounted to about 600 million rubles, which is half the level of 2010 (1.2 billion rubles). The financial situation remained rather complicated: the volume of accounts payable was 2.5 billion rubles, the receivables - 1.2 billion rubles. As a result of the combination of factors, a bankruptcy procedure was initiated in 2011.

Considering the importance of the enterprise, in 2012 SMZ goes under the jurisdiction of Oboronprom with 100% state participation. This saved production from ruin. In 2014 the owner of the plant became the state holding "Stankoprom", so the machine-tool plant was one of the first to enter the federal program of technical and technological re-equipment. Thanks to state support, the company received innovative equipment, which makes it possible to produce unique products for different industries. In 2016 the Savelovsky factory changed the owner. At the moment, production assets are managed by a large private machine tool association LLC "Stan".

Today the factory workers are able to perform modernization of almost any domestic and foreign machine at the highest technical level. Director SMZ S.V. Makarov believes that the plant is able to become a leader in the field of re-equipment of domestic enterprises with new high-precision production machines that are not inferior to the best world analogues.

Description

For a long time, SMZ was the base enterprise for supplying the enterprises of the aviation industry with complex technological equipment. For all the time, over 35,000 machining centers and high-precision CNC equipment have been delivered to domestic and foreign enterprises. And the total number of machines of all types has exceeded 100,000. About 1,500 people work at the plant today.

Production of the Savelovsky machine-building plant is in demand by the enterprises of the defense industry, machine-building, gas-oil-processing, metallurgical, automotive, shipbuilding plants, energy companies (including nuclear power plants) and aerospace. Among foreign partners are customers from Great Britain, China, Italy, India, CIS countries.

Production

Savelovsky Machine-Building Plant produces, modernizes and repairs the following types of equipment:

• For cutting metal sheets;
• Drip;
• Procuring;
• For the release of composite materials;
• For processing blades of turbines of aircraft engines;
• For oil refining industry, RZD, MES;
• Machining centers.

Each machine passes the acceptance procedure in the presence of an authorized representative of the customer. SMZ performs installation, commissioning, commissioning and service support of the produced equipment.
