Liming soil - an important point in agricultural work

Before you start to cultivate a piece of land and plant any plants, you need to determine the properties of the soil. This can be done in a laboratory way. For a simple gardener, a litmus paper will work that will give an opportunity to know the level of acidity of the earth. By results of analyzes it will be possible to draw a conclusion on necessity of carrying out in your site of such process, as liming of soil. Your further material investments depend on the analysis in terms of purchasing the right fertilizer, seedlings, seedlings, seeds, planting and planting plants acceptable for the land, and, therefore, obtaining a crop.

According to the level of acidity, the following types of soil are distinguished:

- weakly acidic (level Ph 5-6);

- medium-acid (level Ph 4-5);

- Strongly acidic (level Ph 3-4).

Liming of acidic soils must be carried out to eliminate their harmful effect on the development of plants, increase in the intake of nutrients such as calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and other macro- and microelements during their growth; Disinfection of the sown area from various types of diseases. Among other things, during the introduction of certain fertilizers into the composition of the earth (liming of the soil) you will significantly improve its structure. Sandy make more tied, and clay - loose.

There are three groups of plants, which are usually planted depending on the timing of fertilization. In the first year, those crops that strongly react to acidity are sown, followed by plants with a weak and moderate reaction. Fertilizers are washed out by atmospheric precipitation, in addition, they are taken from the ground types of crops from the previous year of disembarkation. Accordingly, the percentage of soil acidity index varies.

The first group includes: beets, onions, celery, garlic, cabbage, spinach, currants. To the second - beans, cauliflower, kohlrabi, cucumber, apple, cherry, plum. To the third - a potato, a tomato, turnip, a radish, zucchini, sorrel, raspberry, strawberry. It is recommended that the crop be planted alternately in the area where the liming of the soil is carried out, depending on the reaction of the plants to acidity.

If you are planning the process of improving the structure of the soil for the fall, then it should be carried out globally, on the entire site. In this case, your efforts will give results within 5-8 years. If you do not have the opportunity to conduct such a large-scale event, and you plan to apply fertilizers in small doses, then carry out the liming of the soil in the spring. Fertilizers are applied three weeks before planting. Regardless of the season of work, fertilizers should not be on the surface of the soil, carefully loosen them and mix with the ground.

Liming of the soil can be carried out with lime slaked, quicklime, chalk, wood ash, egg shell, calcareous flour. They must be ground to a dusty state. Large pieces or pieces will not give you any result. The optimal amount of fertilizers in the soil for vegetable crops is 400-800 grams per square meter. For fruit and berry plants, use the amount that corresponds to their ratio to acidity. Plum, cherries require more volume, and gooseberries are minimal.

A competent and rational attitude to the quality indicators of the land will allow you to grow an excellent harvest.
