The falling belltower, which Italy is proud of, is 55 meters high, and the inscription on it attests to its long-standing origin (laid in 1173).

For several years the Leaning Tower of Pisa has been pleased with its ringing of bells. A team of international restorers for 11 years has been working on the revival of the Venetian bell tower, which collapsed more than 100 years ago, in 1902, and the renovation of the "falling" tower.

The tower is located on the territory of Piazza dei Miracoli (Piazza dei Miracoli), this is Pisa's Cathedral Square. The square and in truth is full of wonders - the Baptistery, the Cathedral, the ancient frescoes on the walls of the Camposanto monumentale and Roman sculptures, undoubtedly the most famous Campanilla - the "falling" tower. The splendor of the architecture of the square surprises the imagination of any tourist, it's not for nothing that Cathedral Square is located in the UNESCO world heritage.

Leaning Tower of Pisa: history

The history of the Leaning Tower of Pisa and to this day is full of mysteries and mysteries, but the local people describe the city's history as a legend about Pelops - he left Greece and laid a city in Italy that reminded him of his native land. It is difficult to judge the veracity of this legend in our time, but the fact that the lands are sacred since the time of the existence of the ancient Etruscan tribes is indisputable.

The Leaning Tower of Pisa also contains many interesting puzzles. For example, what an ingenious architect about 1000 years ago decided to deceive all the laws of physics and become famous throughout the world. It seems incredible, but maybe everything. Even now, some tourists in the beginning are afraid to approach it closely, suggesting that it can collapse, and come closer only realizing that the Leaning Tower of Pisa has stood "falling" for so many years.

The name of the architect who designed the Campanile is lost, but there are reliable data that the foundation stone of the tower was laid in August 1173. This is the inscription located to the right of the entrance. It is now believed that the Leaning Tower of Pisa began to decline due to incorrect calculations in the strength of the soil and the mass of the structure. Soil, and, accordingly, the foundation gradually sink.

The fact that the tower is sloping, it was seen 10 years later, at the time when 3 columned rings were already built. For safety, the work was suspended, because the drawdown of the foundation by that time was more than 30 cm, and the slope was 5 cm. After a lapse of 100 years, the architect Giovanni de Simone resumed construction work on the Campanile. A brilliant idea came into his head, as the tower had to smooth out the angle of inclination. As a result, the impression was created that the tower "straightened", but because of this the foundation sank even more and at the end of the construction of the loggia, in 1284, the slope of the tower was close to 90 cm. A few decades later, in the middle of the 14th century, A belfry was installed on the tower.

All this time the tower did not cease to "fall", but did not "fall". In the XIX century, it deviated more than 4 meters. Surprisingly, despite all the problems in this structure, it still suffered the earthquake of 1846 and the bombing of World War II.

In 1990, at a time when the tower was tilted annually by 1-2 mm, its viewing was banned for tourists and restoration work was started . Thanks to these works, the earth was reinforced around the basement, and the Venetian bell tower was repaired. With the use of cables from steel, the Pisa Tower itself was also strengthened.

And now the famous Pisa miracle attracts a huge number of tourists from all over the world with its beauty, and its existence proves that miracles do happen.
