Kumovya are the second parents of the child

To understand what nepotism is, you need to look into the history of the Slavic peoples. Even before the arrival of Christianity, it was a people's tradition, custom, twinning, which later the church was endowed with the present meaning, like many folk rites. After all carols, carnival, search of a flower of a fern, jumping over a fire on a holiday of Ivan Kupala take roots since ancient times and have been dated for Christian holidays. But still: what does the word "nepotism" mean in the Christian tradition? Kumovya is, first of all, relatives, though not by blood, but by the Mystery of Baptism.

The relationship is based on the relationship between the godfather and the godmother with the parents of the godson and between them. For many centuries the traditions of nepotism developed, now they have entered our life, and we do not think about their essence and origin. Some church ordinances become an unshakable law, and just do not pay attention to other societies.

Christian rules

Always the sexual relationship between the kuma (kum) and the child's parent was considered a mortal sin. Never a godfather could become a husband with his wife or a pregnant woman. A great sin was also the renunciation of nepotism. There are many other prohibitions in the rules of spiritual kinship.

Clicks and acquisitions

It must be said that in Russia and in Ukraine there have always been invited (clicked) cousins, counter-strikes. They were appointed when the child was dying in the family. Parents were invited to christen the next newborn baby the first people they met on the way.

In further relations, the counter-comer was always more honorable than the one called. But even more respect was paid-off kumu, he was invited when the children very often ached. Re- rite of baptism in the church, of course, was not carried out, but there was another - a home ritual. Otkupnye kumovya took a sick child from the hands of parents who passed it to the open door of the house - through the threshold. The kid after the ritual of the transfer had to be changed into everything new. Subsequently, the foreclosed parents replaced the godparents, whose rights were ignored from that moment.

Since that moment, the family had two cums. They also honored him and did not interrupt his relationship with him.

There is also a double, and even triple, nepotism, which is common in Western Ukraine, where it is customary to invite several pairs of godparents.

Duties of Godparents

In many parts of Ukraine, the kings are still spiritual guides for their godchildren. Unfortunately, in our time it is accepted that the godparents should simply give their godson gifts and not take any part in his upbringing and development. If you look at how parents choose their parents for a baby, then you can clearly notice the tendency of parents' interest. And after all the most important rule at a choice of godparents for the child is it should be believing people who realize responsibility and are proud of the given trust. They must give the child the foundations of the Christian religion. Kumovya are guardians who, in the event of the death of their parents, must take care of their own godchildren.

Nowadays nepotism has acquired some other traditions, now more everyday things are observed than spiritual trends. Kumovye are friends who want to be related. New relatives often meet together together to celebrate holidays, play weddings, and just talk more - they are friends of families. Be sure to send congratulations on their birthday to the kings, in the age of technical progress they connect television, radio broadcasting and mobile communications to congratulations. For Slavic peoples, the theme of nepotism is an inexhaustible source of sayings, anecdotes, and creativity - it is a storehouse of folk wisdom and folklore.
