The flood in the Kuban, which occurred in 2012, is a spontaneous collapse, which was provoked by torrential rains. By Russian standards this disaster is outstanding. Foreign experts rated it as a sudden flood. About the Crimean natural disaster in 2012 and will be discussed in this article.

What happened in the Krasnodar Territory in the summer of 2012?

Severe rain in the Krasnodar Territory began on July 4. In some areas, the monthly rainfall rate has been exceeded several times. Excessive showers walked at night on July 7. Numerous precipitation contributed to the rise in water levels in rivers, such as:

This is in some way comparable to such a natural disaster as tsunami. Employees of the Ministry of Emergency Measures acknowledged that a 7-meter wave passed along the Krymsk and almost instantly swallowed up more than half of the city with a population of 57 thousand. 53 thousand people were affected by the spontaneous action, more than half of them lost their property. In Novorossiysk, a 6-storm storm was recorded, which meant that the port's work was stopped.

Causes of flooding

Floods in the Kuban are quite common, but a disaster of such a destructive scale is remembered by few. What influenced the unexpected flood in Krymsk? The reason is heavy rains.

Many examinations were conducted by the employees of the Investigative Committee of Russia. They state the fact that the 2012 Crimean flood is a natural disaster, which is based on a natural phenomenon. There was a massive concentration of water, and then - a very rapid discharge, which resulted in an almost instant flooding of a huge area.

Flood wave

The reason for the accumulation of water is torrential rains that have been going on for more than one day in the Krasnodar Territory. This is the main factor in the occurrence of a huge amount of water. What was the deterrent to the unimpeded passage of flood waters? Where did the wave that swept and destroyed everything in its path, including Krymsk? Flooding (2012), the reasons for its appearance, speculation and truth for a long time will remain unchanged theme for conversations of both local residents and other residents of the country.

Scientists and experts took part in the study of the elements. And they came to the fact that anthropogenic factors had their influence on the formation of the flood wave. The main reason was the inadequate throughput capacity of the culvert systems in railway embankments and the railway bridge across the Adagum River in front of the Crimean. All these factors led to a very rapid accumulation of water, that is, the formation of an artificial reservoir. And then there was a leak, and then a massive breakthrough of water in the direction of the city of Krymsk. The flood, as already mentioned above, occurred instantly at night, when people were sleeping. This became one of the main reasons for the death of a large number of people.

Spans of automobile bridges in the direction of Krymsk were clogged with tree trunks, branches and household garbage, which made it very difficult for the free descent of flood waters. In addition, the riverbed was heavily littered, in some areas there was a lot of vegetation, which also adversely affected the descent of water.

Liquidation of consequences of flood in Krymsk

About 900 people were saved during the liquidation of the consequences of the flood. Evacuated about 3000 victims, mainly the area of rescue was the Crimean region and the city of Krymsk. The 2012 flood was of enormous magnitude. In this area were involved:

  1. 10600 lifeguards.
  2. More than 2500 units of equipment.
  3. Ten flying machines.

Eliminated the consequences of the disaster many volunteers who came from all over the country, their number reached about 2,5 thousand people.

Benefits and compensation to local residents

The total damage from the destructive force of the elements amounted to no less than 20 billion rubles (according to the estimates of the regional administration). The city of Krymsk was mostly affected. The flood left a huge number of people without a roof over their heads. Over 2 billion rubles have been allocated from the federal budget for capital repair of damaged buildings. In the ruined city, 30 new houses were built. The state has paid compensation for the harm to health in the amount of about 106 million rubles. Also benefits were received by family members of those killed in this disaster, about 240 million rubles.

On the first anniversary of the tragedy in the Krasnodar Territory on July 6 in Krymsk, the memorial "The Wailing Wall" was opened.
