Anyone who is at least a little acquainted with the Vedic culture and the traditional system of Indian ayurvedic medicine, certainly had to try kichari. This is the main dish, recommended in Ayurveda during cleansing. Kichari is a combination of cereals and legumes, in which their nutritional value is doubled. In ayurvedic clinics, the main dish is kichari. The recipe for its preparation is presented in our article. In it we will tell about useful properties of kichari and we will present the responses of people who underwent purification by this method.

What ingredients are needed for kichari

The following ingredients are required for kichar preparation:

  • Green mung (mung gave) - a kind of legumes, reminiscent of the appearance of green peas. Mash promotes the activation of the main systems of detoxification of the body - the small intestine, liver, kidneys, skin. In such peas contains about 30% of vegetable protein, which is easily absorbed by our body.
  • Basmati rice is a cereal, which is an excellent sorbent for toxins.

  1. In a pan with a non-stick coating or a deep frying pan, melted butter (2 tbsp) is heated.

  3. After the spices are added, mash and basmati rice are poured into the pan (1 cup each). Cereals are filled with water and cooked on low heat until cooked.
  4. In the finished dish, salt and pepper to taste, coriander greens and other condiments are added.

Recipe kichari from Yogi Bhajan

The spiritual leader of Yoga Bhajan at one time was preparing kicharias according to the following recipe:

  1. Pour 1250 ml of purified water into a pot of finished water, put mung dal into it (250 ml cup), allow to boil and cook for 30 minutes until half-ready.
  2. Basmati rice in the same volume add to the pan after the mash starts to boil.
  3. Kichari, whose recipe is offered by Yogi Bhajan, is prepared with the addition of vegetables (3 cups). You can use carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, asparagus, zucchini and other vegetables.
  4. In a frying pan with melted or vegetable oil (2 items of a spoon) onions, garlic (3 slices) and finely grated ginger (¼ of a root) are fried. Once the onion is clear, turmeric (1 teaspoon), red, black pepper, cardamom seeds (¼ tsp), ground coriander, Indian spice mixture garam masala, cumin (½ teaspoon) are added. When the spices in the frying pan are sufficiently fried, they can be transferred to a saucepan.

At the very end of the preparation, salt or soy sauce is added to the thick kichari soup to taste.

Kichari from Gurubachan Singh: recipe for cooking

Yogi Gurubachan Singh offers his own recipe for cooking kichari. He practically does not use spices (except ginger) and does not add salt to his dish, and as a basic ingredient he uses a white, polished or yellow mung bean.

The recipe for kichari from Gurubachan Singh is this:

  1. Mash (1 cup) is soaked in clean water 2 hours before cooking.
  2. In the pan, pour 8 cups of water and bring to a boil.
  3. In the boiling water, the mache is lowered and cooked for half an hour.
  4. After 30 minutes, rice is poured into the pan (1 cup).
  5. In a frying pan with melted butter (1 tbsp.), Chopped onions (2 pcs.), Grated ginger (2 cm slice) and garlic (2 slices) are fried.
  6. When rice and mung be cooked until ready, they are transferred to a deep frying pan to fried onions and mixed.

Kichari on this recipe is prepared without salt, but if its taste seems too fresh, you can add a couple of tablespoons of soy sauce.

Kichari recipe in the multivariate

Preparation of kichari in the multivark is carried out in the following sequence:

  1. The "Frying" multivarker mode is selected. In the bowl of the device is laid ghee (5 tablespoons) and warms up well.
  2. In the red-hot little seeds of zira (1 teaspoon) are poured. After a couple of minutes, grated ginger (1 tsp), turmeric and salt (2 teaspoons), asafoetida (½ tsp) are added.

Kichari, whose recipe is presented above, after preparation is poured with lemon juice (2 tablespoons), sprinkled with herbs and black pepper. The dish is served in a warm form.

How to lose weight with kichari?
