Intramuscular injection: algorithm. Technique for performing intramuscular injection

All people tend to get sick. In some cases, doctors prescribe injections for more effective treatment. In a medical institution you will be given this procedure quickly and practically painlessly. But what to do when treatment is carried out at home? This article will tell you about how the intramuscular injection (algorithm) is performed. You will learn about the main parts of the body into which the injection is made. Also find out the features that the technique of intramuscular injection has. The manipulation algorithm will be given below.

Features of the technique of stabbing

  1. Before you take an injection, you should definitely read the instructions to the drug. Some drugs are recommended to be administered subcutaneously.
  2. The algorithm for intramuscular injection requires a preliminary selection of the needle. If you have a large fat layer, then the tool should be of appropriate length.
  3. Also for carrying out the manipulation you will need a sterile cotton wool or bandage. After the injection, you need to attach it so that the infection does not get into the wound, and droplets of blood do not stain your clothes.
  4. Intramuscular injection (algorithm) involves the use of an alcohol solution. They need to wipe the working area before stabbing.

Intramuscular injection

The algorithm for performing the injection is quite simple. However, all items need to be performed in turn. Only when all conditions are met, manipulation will bring effect, and treatment will not pass in vain. Intramuscular injection has this name because the prick is put directly into the muscle of the human body. This is the main condition for the injection. So, consider a step-by-step algorithm for performing intramuscular injection.

The first step: choosing a place for a prick

Physicians identify three main places in which an injection is made. This is the hip, buttocks or shoulders. The algorithm for the implementation of intramuscular injection involves the selection of the working part. Most often the injection is injected into the buttock. This selects the outer top part. To properly separate the boundaries, you need to visually divide half the buttocks. Cross the cross and select the top outer part. That's where you need to inject the medicine.

If you put an injection in the thigh, then you need to put two palms and expose the thumbs. The area where they converge is what you need.

When the injection needs to be inserted into the shoulder, its upper part is selected. Here the muscle is easy to feel with the fingers.

The second step: preparation of the medicine

Open the syringe and gently place the needle on it. Using a file, open the injection and type the medicine with the instrument. Next, you need to release all the vials from the syringe. To do this, place the appliance with the needle up and start pressing the plunger. If small air bubbles are at the base of the syringe (under the medicine), then tap on the instrument. If necessary, draw a small portion of air and repeat the procedure.

The third step: the patient's location

Depending on where you are going to put the shot, you need to properly arrange the patient. If the injection is supposed to be in the buttock area, then put the person on the stomach. This position is the most convenient. Of course, the prick can be placed in a vertical position, but this is impractical.

If the injection needs to be put in step, then it is better to plant a person. The patient can also take a horizontal position.

Setting the injection in the shoulder practically does not make a difference, in what position is the patient. However, the most optimal posture is sedentary.

The fourth step: skin treatment

Intramuscular injection (execution algorithm) involves the treatment of the skin before puncture. To do this, take a small piece of cotton or bandage and soak it in alcohol solution. Carefully wipe the indicated area and put the napkin in the left hand.

The fifth step: the injection

The algorithm of intramuscular injection presupposes the division of this stage into sub-points. So, how to put an injection?

  1. Remove the cap from the needle. Take your hand about 20 centimeters from the area of the muscle.
  2. With a sudden movement of the hand, make a puncture of the tissue and move your thumb to the piston.
  3. Slowly start to inject the medicine, pressing on the moving part of the syringe. Make sure that the game remains in place.
  4. When all the medicine has been injected into the muscle area, slowly pull out the needle by pulling the syringe toward you.
  5. Attach an alcoholic or pre-prepared sterile tissue to the puncture area.

The sixth step: the elimination of tools

The algorithm for setting an intramuscular injection involves getting rid of the working material. Close the syringe cap tightly. Do not remove the needle from the instrument. Place the syringe in the original packaging. There you can put the remains of the injection. Throw everything away immediately.

Possible problems

So, you know the main points of the algorithm of intramuscular injection. In the process of manipulation, some problems may arise. All of them have appropriate solutions. Consider them.

  • Hit with a needle in the vessel. If the instrument has entered the capillary, you will only learn about it after removing the syringe from the skin. Most often this is manifested by a small bleeding, which passes by itself.
  • The appearance of cones. If the medicine was injected incorrectly or got under the skin, then a few days later a lump may appear. To get rid of it it is possible by means of resorbants or folk methods.
  • Hitting the needle in the sciatic nerve. Such a problem arises extremely rarely. If you get into the nerve, the patient experiences a temporary loss of sensation of the leg, which is accompanied by an unpleasant pulling and twisting sensation. In this case, the patient needs some rest for a while. Sometimes you may need medical help.

Put the injections correctly and always observe sterility. Only in this case the treatment will be effective and there will be no complications. Good health to you!
