How to properly take vasoconstrictive drops for the nose to avoid addiction.

It is difficult to find a person who at least once would not have used a drop for the nose. Unfortunately, their incorrect application leads to sad consequences. This is especially true for vasoconstrictor drugs, and it is behind them that they rush to the pharmacy when the nose stops breathing. But far from everyone knows that from these drugs the nose literally falls into narcotic dependence if to apply them more than 5 - 7 days.

All vasoconstrictive drugs for the nose can be attributed to several groups. Drops containing xylometazoline: "Galazolin", "Ximelin", "Rinonorm". They last about 4 hours. Recently, sprays based on xylometazoline have been produced, they are preferable to drops. Preparations containing oxymetazoline: "Nazivin", "Nazol", "Fervex", "Fazin" and others. These drugs last longer, 10 to 12 hours, but such drops for the nose during pregnancy are contraindicated, as well as children under one year. Medicines containing naphazoline: "Sanorin" and "Naphthyzine". Of these, "Sanorin" is preferable, since the additional components included in it reduce the risk of addiction and reduce side effects.

It must be remembered that with constant use of vasoconstrictive drops for the nose disrupt the operation of the nasal mucosa. It is thinner, the vascular nutrition worsens, which, becoming fragile, easily damaged by the slightest trauma or when pressure rises, nose bleeding may occur. In case of an overdose, the consequences can be much more unpleasant: cardiac arrhythmia, nausea, headache, even depression. Therefore, as banal as it sounds, even a slight rhinitis is better treated by the doctor's recommendations, and not by the pharmacist at the pharmacy or friends.

Let's try to offer some tips on how to properly take drops for the nose, if there is no way to consult a doctor. It is not necessary to use one drug: using different drops or sprays during the day, you can at least slightly delay the time of habituation. In the afternoon, it is easier to endure the stuffiness of the nose, you can go through respiratory gymnastics, acupressure, in extreme cases, if you do not already have strength, use drops that do not last long, 3 to 4 hours. For the night you can drip more long-acting drugs, 8 - 12 hours. The basic rule is to delay the instillation as long as possible.

The most difficult time, usually, is the first days of the disease. If you do not just bury the nose, and treat the underlying ailment, then the need for drops will disappear in a few days by itself. It is advisable after three or four days to gradually switch to inhalation or moisturizing the nose with slightly salted water.

The true medicines are moisturizers, which favorably influence the nasal mucosa and facilitate the escape of mucus. They contain useful microelements and their salts, which normalize the motor activity of cilia, improve the functioning of the mucosa. There are practically no side effects, just like addictive. This is especially important in pediatrics. Instead of using drops in the nose for children under one year, it is better to use sprays, such as "Saline", "Akvalor" and others.

There is a separate group of drugs intended for use in allergic rhinitis. These are combined agents that reduce mucosal edema and reduce allergy manifestations. This group includes, for example, nasal drops "Sanorin-analergin", expensive but effective Swiss "Vibrocil", of the new - Italian spray "Rinofluimucil". The latter drug dilutes the thick discharge from the nose and is a mild vasoconstrictor.

The treating is also quite affordable and inexpensive "Pinosol", which neutralizes many viruses and bacteria and restores the mucous membrane. In fact, there are so many different drugs for the nose that it is very difficult to understand them in an ignorant person. A doctor, taking into account the medical history and already used drugs, will appoint the most effective means.
